    Description

** We currently have vacancies for volunteers for the new academic year. Volunteers are welcome to book a place in advance as we have limited spaces for each term.

** We welcome volunteers with long term commitments (a full term 3 months). However, we are flexible and would consider people who due to their personal circumstances cannot commit to a full term.

We operate a day center for young people (ages 5-18) with learning difficulties. We are very excited about our project as we offer educational and recreational opportunities to young adults who have been denied access to mainstream schools because of their learning difficulties. We are currently one of the few institutions in the city of Accra Ghana that provide residential care, rehabilitation and special needs education for this client group.

    * Volunteers will be supporting local staff in teaching basic skills to our students. This will include academics (literacy and numeracy), life skills, and leisure activities. Volunteers will be expected to engage with children in the classroom and support them in recreational activities, often accompanying students and staff on outings. We are also anxious for our volunteers to teach new skills to our students; can you help them practice yoga or teach them to play a musical instrument?

Volunteers will be asked to work approximately 25 hours a week: 10am-3pm Monday-Friday with weekends free. We are very flexible with this, as we want you to have plenty of time to enjoy the country. You will have a room either here at the centre or in a private house nearby, depending on the number of volunteers we have during your stay.

Our project aims to enhance the quality of lives of children and young people through a structured intervention and advocacy programme that offers opportunity for development. Working closely in line with National, Governmental and International Organisations, NGO's and Volunteers, the programme aims to empower children and young people achieve their potential in life. For more information please see our website: and complete an application

Volunteers don't necessarily need experience in working with children with learning difficulties. In spite we welcome volunteers with experience in working with children disabilities, such trainee speech therapist, psychology students and learning disability students, we are looking for people who are passionate about children, patient, and willing to learn new skills and explore. Please contact us if you are interested in joining our team!

*We require a minimum 6 weeks commitment. Priority will be given to volunteers who are able to stay for the entire 3 month term**

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

This project immerses participants in a vibrant tapestry of cultural, educational, and recreational experiences, each carefully tailored to the unique character of the destination. Imagine stepping back in time with expert-led tours of historical landmarks, getting your hands messy in local arts and crafts workshops, or mastering the nuances of a new language through interactive classes.

Volunteers don’t just observe—they dive in. Picture yourself rolling dough in a traditional cooking session, savouring the rich aromas of authentic cuisine, or swaying to the rhythms of folk music and dance performances. Beyond cultural immersion, participants make a meaningful impact through community service—whether it’s teaching children with learning difficulties, teaching English in primary schools, preserving local ecosystems, or engaging in hands-on conservation efforts. For those craving adventure, outdoor activities like hiking through breath taking landscapes, cycling scenic routes, or joining in beloved local sports create unforgettable memories and a strong sense of camaraderie. As the sun sets, evening gatherings provide space for reflection, storytelling, and deep connections, transforming this experience into a journey of personal growth and cultural exchange. Would you like any refinements or adjustments to better fit your audience?

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We welcome all volunteers to the Land of Sunshine, a nation with the reputation as the friendliest in Africa. Described as a heaven that combines the charms of tropical beach idyll with a fascinating historical heritage, rich in cultural variety and some interesting wildlife in the national parks.

A unique experience for volunteers to feel the taste of life in tropical Africa - Ghana, a former British Colony known as the 'Gold Coast'. Volunteers will have the opportunity to meet their peers, learn about the Ghanaian Culture and discover it's blend of African traditions and British influence. We have up to date literature on how to travel around the city of Accra and places to visit (tourist attractions) in Ghana. An English speaking country, Ghana is politically safe and stable, hence it offers a rewarding introduction to Africa.
