Description
For beginning December 2024, we are looking for Workawayers, who like to help with the olive harvest. This year we will have much more olives than normally and up to 4 people can stay in our guest house with a marvelous view on the country side and the Esterel Mountains on the Côte d'Azur.
Kai (German) is building up an ecological guest house. There are 2 houses (incl. solar panels for warm water and electricity, house insulation), but some smaller parts are still missing. The guest house hosts ecological seminars now and then. We are organising a couple of times per year outdoor events like walks, guided visits through our property and walks in the surroundings.
We have a big garden of about 2,5 hectar, with a lot of olive trees and a rather steep terrain with terraces, but also a marvelous view over the country side and the Esterel mountains which are between St. Raphael and Cannes.
In the vegetable garden you can find over the year about 15 different varieties of vegetables including artichokes, in spring and summer time water and honey melons, squashs, tomatoes, beans, peas etc. In autumn and winter we cultivate cauliflower, brokkoli, different salads, red beet, leek etc.
We have 7 sheep and 7 hens which need to be fed regularly and looked after. Every morning the sheep are brought to one of the paddocks, always needing fresh food. The breed of the sheep is called Corsican sheep. We also have 2 cats.
The work consists of help in the vegetable garden, caring for the animals and some renovation or outdoor work. End of November or in December we harvest olives for making olive oil in a mill. We milk in average two of the sheep and make our own yoghurt with the sheep's milk. We regularly bake cakes with our own eggs and make our own sourdough bread.
We host a nature kindergarden on our property and we do gardening or cooking/baking together with the children now and then.
The working time is 5 times 5 hours in the morning, the weekend is free. We finish work by around 12.30/1 o'clock, depending on the beginning and when the sun rises. So the afternoons are free for walks, visits in Fayence/Tourrettes or a bus trip to the seaside in St. Raphael. Our MINIMUM stay is 2 weeks.Types of help and learning opportunities
