    Description

Note: This profile is in a transition. I have years of experience in recieving Workawayers, but my proyect has changed from a mushroom farm to a cultural proyect in the Indiginous reseve Escopetera y Pirza in Bonafont Caldas.
All current references on this profile refer to volunteers that worked with me on the mushroomfarm, not this new proyect.

We, Adriana and Peter a Colombian/Dutch couple, run a place A Workshop/Gastrobar located inside the Indiginous reserve. During the weekends we act as a Gastrobar and are open to the public in general. During the week we use our instalations as a workshop for social activities.

One of he ideas -is to create a space for social and cultural interchange between the local rural/indiginous population and world travelers. We believe in the potential of rural comunities but to improve the sustainability of these comunities we need to combine ancient (local) knowledge, with modern global knowledge. Receiving international volunteers is one of the ways we can help to create this intercultural connection.

The RIEP is currently developing a community based tourism program and we need inputs from international travelers to identify the strenghts and weaknesses of our territory for sustainable tourism, aswell as help us to develop this plan.

In our Workshop/Gastrobar we would like to develop all kind of cultural activities directed at strengthening "wellbeing vs consumerism". Adriana has worked for 10 years in an NGO and later as a schoolteacher and now wants to setup her own NGO. This new NGO focuses on propiatary education for the local community. This propiatary education is promoted by the indiginous counsel of the RIEP and is based upon the teachings of the the elders and the territory. The idea is to restrenghten the historical roots of the population by means of all kind of social and cultural activities.

Our project needs a wide variety of skills. We would like all volunteers to be able to teach English, but apart from this we would like to recive help in sustainable/community tourism, socialmedia marketing, permaculture, ecoconstruction, , etc.

If you have a desire to volunteer with us, but have other skills, let us know your interests and we´ll try to work something out.

Bonafont has tourism potencial but one of the main barriers is the fact that the rural population only speaks Spanish. We would like to facilitate the interaction between locals and volunteers to promote mutilingualism and cultural interchange.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Our place is located in Bonafont a small village close to Riosucio, in the department of Caldas. Bonafont is a sleepy agricultural village where the time seems to have stopped some decades ago. Bonafont and the RIEP have an ancient history. In our territory you can find rocks with petroglyps dating back thousands of years.

Riosucio is the nearest town and is famous for its cultural heritage and its bianual carnival of the devil. (next one january 2025). Riosucio can be reached by bus from Pereira, Manizales and Medellin. From Riosucio to Bonafont it is only a 15 minute busride.

Bonafont / Riosucio are of the beaten tracks for tourism. You will not find fancy tourist atractions, but you will find small farms, impressive nature and friendly people,
