    Description

We opened our doors in the heart of the hostel in 2014...although small, Durres is a lively city that is 30-40 minutes to Tirana and has easy access to nearby tourist hot spots such as Berat, Kruje, Vlora, Shkoda, and more. Plus we are a quick bus ride from some beautiful beaches!

We are always on the look-out for new, helpful volunteers who are able to stay for a minimum of 1 to 2 weeks.

The hostel has 28 single beds and 2 private rooms, so you can imagine it can get quite busy in the summer months! Volunteers are expected to do work in reception, assist with some cleaning, help to prepare the breakfast, and other small tasks.

In exchange for your work, we’ll provide you with a bed in a volunteer-only room, the breakfast that is included for guests, and you can wash your laundry with no cost.

If you are interested, please take a moment to read over our profile for more information and send us a message :D

Durres is a city that is not crowded with tourists like Tirana. It is calm, peaceful, and full of local people. It is a wonderful atmosphere to go on an evening stroll through the city center or along one of the many boardwalks.

The local fresh market is a wonderful experience. Local, organic, and also imported vegetables, fruit, dairy, spices, teas, beans, meat, etc. There are also many second hand/thift stores to buy clothing.

Durres is a good base for taking day trips to nearby towns of interest. There are several beaches close by to relax and enjoy before or after your shift, plus small mountains around too. With an easy hike you can get to a high point with amazing views of the sea and city. Restaurants are very cheap too, so it's a great place to be for a while !

    Help

As more and more tourist and guests come to visit beautiful Albania, we are in great need of helpful volunteers.

The schedule is set with shifts that are 5 hours per day and two days off per week - which is decided between the volunteers. We try to make our schedule flexible so volunteers will have time to enjoy the city and visit nearby attractions.

The schedule is set with the morning shift being 8h00 - 13h00, afternoon shift 13h00 - 18h00, and evening shift 18h00 - 23h00. During the weekdays, the afternoon shift is covered by the hostel manager, and she works either the morning or afternoon shift on weekends. **The schedule will change slightly in the high season**

We need volunteers who are ready & willing to help out and work around the hostel! Tasks WILL include assisting with preparing breakfast [high season], helping to clean (bathrooms, laundry, sweeping, tidying kitchen, making beds [high season], and general hostel maintenance. In the past we've been *very* lenient about how much work is being done by volunteers but this is changing! You will not be asked to work hard, ask tasks are split between myself, our cleaning lady, and other volunteers but it is expected that tasks are being completed.

Volunteers will also work reception in addition to the other tasks. Reception is quite simple and involves managing bookings, completing guest check-in/out, managing payments, making recommendations to nearby sites and areas, and giving directions.

In exchange for your work, we will provide you with accommodation in a volunteer only dorms, breakfast, fast WiFI, and use of the washing machine. After a couple of hours of work, life here is very relaxed and peaceful.

Please let us know if you are interested!!

We are looking forward to hearing from you.

If you come to Durres, you can also enjoy your time on the beach, enjoy great seafood, spend some time in Tirana (only 40 min by bus), the historic town of Berat, or Kruje, or play football on the beaches. It is also a great place to start to go for some day trips to south or north of Albania. Or go to Italy, the ferries leave/arrive here. It is after Tirana the second largest city of Albania, and has a great Mediterranean vibe.
