Description
I am an English hiking guide and for over 35 years have lived in a traditional stone cottage in Skopelos town. I still do some guiding work but concentrate more on my non profit, trail clearing project; to reinstate, maintain and protect the ancient heritage stone paths and trails. This is tough, tiring and dirty but rewarding work; cutting away vegetation, sawing down trees, moving logs and digging out and exposing the beautiful old cobbled trails. Hang out with me or do your own thing on days off. The day starts depending upon the temperature but let's say around 10am. After work, If it's warm enough, I usually drive to a beach or go for a beer. I try to include you in all aspects of my life here and introduce you to my friends. There is very little going on in the winter time with most bars and shops closed from October to March. It can also get very cold. We even have snow sometimes. There is no camping on Skopelos and I have no garden. The ferry is not cheap so camper vans are best left on the mainland.

Skopelos is a beautiful island. Volunteers will get to see remote parts of the island and meet the locals who offer hospitality. You will sample every day life on a Greek island.
Help
I need man power to do the jobs I can't; heavy lifting for example. I work alongside you every day and drive you to the work venue.
I can't take more than one volunteer at a time due to free accommodation problems. Due to the remoteness of Skopelos, this assignment could be considered with work on Evia/Volos/Pelion (mainland) or Skiathos/Alonissos. Nearest airport is Skiathos, then Volos, then Thessaloniki, then Athens. Two hourly bus service from Athens to Evia (Mandouthi) but not all year round, Volos, plus Thessaloniki to Volos. Ferry takes about 3 hours from the mainland.Languages spoken

Accommodation for one person is at my house where there are shared facilities. Evening meal is prepared and served at my house on working days only.
What else ...
This work would suit a strong, practical person who loves nature and the outdoors. The evening meal is vegetarian. On days off I usually eat at a taverna when you are welcome too of course but I can't foot the bill! Join me on my guided hiking days to see more of the island or do your own thing. IF WE HAVE CORRESPONDED AND FIXED DATES, PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT AS YOUR SLOT CAN BE USED BY SOMEONE WHO REALLY WANTS TO COME AND HELP. THANK YOU. I would prefer volunteers to be retirees. No singles who 'have a friend'. You MUST either have a single account, and this means you arrive alone, or a joint account with joint profiles. I can only provide an evening meal on the days we work so you will need some pocket money for additional meals and snacks.
