I had an incredible time working in Florida with Garrett. Principally I was landscaping, power washing, and running errands to get a property in Englewood ready that had a great backyard with a river and plenty of wildlife around. Garrett was an incredible host, and I enjoyed getting to know him along with Gunnar and Erin. I enjoyed the nature of

Thanks so much, this was a very memorable trip to Florida, and one that I will never forget.

Great worker and very nice man. We a little trouble communicating at first, but we were able to make it work. I recommend getting to know him.

First of all we really want to thank you for the hospitality and the great experience!
We only spent 3 weeks at Garrett and Nicole's place and we absolutely enjoyed staying in Sarasota because it's a magical place, perfec to chill out, perfect for sea lovers and for those who want to get in touch with the American culture without dealing with
… read more overcrowded cities. We have to underline that we only met nice people while we were and everyone has been kind to us.
We carried out different jobs, such as gardening, painting and moving furnitures. It sometimes might have been tough also considering the hot weather, but we always worked happily since Garrett and Nicole are cool hosts. Some other days our duties were lighter and we could finish earlier. What we appreciated the most is the fact that everyday we learnt new skills using different tools. It's hard to get bored because the job changes depending on what it's more urgent.
They also borrowed us bikes and a truck in order to move around easily. The house we stayed in was very pretty, full furnished and close to a wonderful park (where we spent a lot of time riding or simply sitting on "our" bench!)
We absolutely recommend these hosts and this workaway experience.
Gian : I'd like to thank Garrett who helped me resurfacing my passion for music! I hope we'll be able to meet in the future and maybe to play together again, perhaps something "more serious" :)
Sara: I'd like to thank you both once again for your patience and kindness, and for increasing my interest in interior design and home staging! :D We wish you all the best. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Barbara and Manno were nice guests. We enjoyed getting to know them, so their review really took us by surprise. Not once did they communicate to us what they have posted. Their account is inaccurate and unfair. We were very accommodating to them when they changed their dates and length of stay. We gave them the opportunity to start their stay
… read more with time off with us, we offered use of our truck, and to stay with us in our home. They declined. They wanted to stay where the work was, which was in our lakefront home. They were given a list of tasks and given absolute autonomy to work at their leisure. They were not asked to do anything that was not on the listing or communicated before hand. Barbara and Manno unfortunately think they are too good for cleaning for others or after themselves. They were not capable to do other things, so cleaning was what was asked of them. It is unfortunate that they did not feel comfortable enough to communicate their feelings to us in person. We wish them the best of luck in their future travels.

We started to talk with the host much time before our arrival, trough whatsap. He did not reply often and he didn't talk a lot. He told us we will have 100 dollars weekly for food and we will work moving furnitures and doing some jobs. He said "tell me if you have any questions" but when I asked more informations about the job, he didn't specified
… read more it.
Deceived by the beautiful reviews we decided to ask him to stay 2 weeks instead of 1 and he allowed us. The comunication with him was very hard and not because of english. I asked him several times the adress of the house where we supposed to stay but I didn't got reply, since he couldn't reply often he encharged his girlfriend to speak with us. She called us and she explained that the house where we suppose to stay was under construction, but nothing was missing. So when we arrived we found an house to clean, wich was fine because it was what we aspected. But few basic things were missing like the bathroom toilet brush, that we needed to buy by our own. When we arrived there we were fool of entusiasm for the job because in our previus workaways we didn't have so much to do, so we asked to him to tell us about the things to do. He did not seem very aware, he came back the day next with a list composed by clening, carpentry and painting but he didn't explain it so much. He didn't organized the job in a proper way, it was everything caotic, not clear and not trasparent. At the end of the first week he gave us a check for food of 200 dollars with written "cleaning". We needed to go by car 29 miles away to change it. He sent us often to clean houses, always with our car. So we couldn't do paintings and carpentry jobs because we were often somewhere else. Other difficulty was that basic items and tools were missing. So at the end what we did was mainly cleaning. I think would be much better to specify this from the beginning. We were not unconfortable with cleaning in general but we supposed to work mainly in something different. What it was absolutly inappropriate it was to make us clean his private house from 9 am until 4.30 pm. We are not cleaning ladies we were not there to clean his private house, we have no spoke about that.
Moreover, he stuck us there in his house even is there was nothing to do anymore. When we went back in the place where we were staying we had discovered that the paintings and carpentry jobs (the works we suppsed to do) had been done by local workers (meanwhile we were cleaning his private house).
He was not intrested in a cultural exchange he has never invite us for a dinner or a tea. He didn't ever offer us a pizza meanwhile we where cleaning his apartament.
Even do the accomodation was nice, I would not raccomand this host, because Workaway for us is mainly work and/or cultural exchange. Both were not good. The work was bad organized and we didn't have any cultural exchange (not even a conversation) with the host. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Garrett welcomed me in his beautiful guest apartment at the last moment, picking me up at the bus station and I felt very grateful for that.

Garrett is an expert of home design and renovation (he showed me several pictures of his amazing former projects) and I am happy and proud to have been part of this project.
I would have liked him to get some time to help me exploring the area. Nevertheless I could borrow a bike to reach downtown and the beautiful marina of Sarasota. Besides I visited a park just out of town where I could see a lot of alligators in their habitat and from very close. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.
