Description
Hi, Danielle and I have “finished” (sort of!) building our straw bale house on a charming little hill surrounded by oak trees near Albi (Tarn, 80 km east of Toulouse). For the near future, our next projects requiring help include:
- Building a ferrocement tank for rain water, using a traditional technique well-known in Asia, Africa, North America…
- Applying the finish layer of lime plaster on the outside walls.
- Making reinforced concrete tracks at the top part of our private path which is pretty steep and in bad condition - so much so that we almost never drive our way up by car!Types of help and learning opportunities
Help with Eco ProjectsGardeningDIY and building projectsCultural exchange and learning opportunities
Both of us being teachers and passionate about our project, we are eager to communicate about it, the choices we made… and issues we had to deal with!
So of course, anyone with an eco-construction project will definitely acquire some theoretical knowledge and practical skills by spending some time working with us on our house!Help
Every bit of help is welcome and no particular skills are required, just curiosity, the desire to be part of a construction with natural materials and learn some techniques along the way. Besides, clay is very pleasant and “sensual” to handle!

There are 2 beds in a secondary little house we have already built, + plenty of room on our site for tents!
We provide ingredients for every meal (veggie or not according to each person’s personal needs) and, according to her availability, Danielle cooks a few fine meals for everyone from time to time! What else ...
The site of our house is quite a delight but you may want to explore the surroundings though! Well, great because the northern half of Tarn, where we live, is a nice and attractive region that has a lot to offer to visitors: Albi, Cordes-sur-Ciel, Gaillac, Puycelsi, Lautrec and many other charming villages.
For nature lovers like us, there are a few beautiful forests (forêts de Sérénac, de Sivens, de la Grésine) and if you are more into open landscapes, you will enjoy going for a walk in the rest of the countryside.A little more information
