    Description

Warning: you stay in 6 m2 shac from wall and shingles. It will be very small with electricity provided. In this small space a real wc (not compost) and a shower exists. that is your space is tiny but you have private wc/shower. If this sounds bad to you please dont apply so that I dont have to 'reject' your application. See all photos. We are 2 shacs here, one for my elderly parents and one for myself. There is a third tiny space with foldable bed for 1 guest only with ensite wc/shower/electric supply.

This area is called Ypsonas and it is connected to Limassol center by bus up to 20.00 weekays and 16.00 weekends. There are android applications to see the time schedules of buses in Cyprus. Pick limassol and see bus 16. We are situated 2-3 km walk from LIDL in YPsonas. LIDL is a german supermarket (and by the way I want to improve and practice my limited German).

I am 40 years old and I feel more comfortable hosting people near my age but will not turn down applications that are not my age as that would be 'ageism'. I just state here I am not very young and our place is not a party place, if you are like 20 years old and you want to party with same age, you should not apply for our projects. Its me and my really old parents and 2 dogs and a few neighbors.

Please buy antimosquito lotion, sun lotion spf 50, good sunglasses, a big hat and patience:) We dont have internet but this area is near limassol, full cover of cellular connection. You can buy a simcard and top up with internet (be careful you want to top up with internet not with calls) from larnaca airport. Or you can buy a simcard from most kiosks for 2 euro and ask to top up internet only not calls (or both if you aim to make phone calls within Cyprus).

We are locals so you can learn Greek language as we interact, so i prefer people who want to learn some Greek. If you are not interested in Greek and Greek food, how else can we repay your help? So i prefer helpers who have an active interest into learning Greek language and suntanning (lots of sun here...).

For 1 helper I can guarantee daily breakfast coffee and noon food (can be split into noon and afternoon meals). But this means you stick around. If you take bus and travel we cannot pay your tickets or food when you travel away from our project. We want you to explore thats why I ask help only Monday-Thursday so that you can possibly explore Cyprus on weekends by traveling to other places. You can also go to another workaway project and then come back here should you need to. This way you can live in, for example, 2 cities and not 1 city. You could split your time between Paphos and Limassol, there is intercity bus. Or Larnaca and Limassol.

Until October 1 - 2024 I cannot offer car transfers. After October 2024 I can pick you up from Bus hub in Limassol and show you Limassol with my car. So if you volunteer here before oct 2024, no lift and no car. Nearest bus station is 2 km away/ supermarket/ kiosk with wifi/ cafe with wifi, all 2 km walk away (and 2 km walk back to us). Are you comfortable with walking? In the sun? The roads here have no pavements as its a semi-rural area.

The 'work', is 2 hours Monday-Thursday so you can spend weekends exploring the rest of Cyprus. We have beutifying jobs like painting an external wall white, de-cluttering the garden, and in general, a lot of debris collecting as this space sadly used to be a car breaker facillity and now we live here and we stil pick up tiny pieces of metal.

We have 2 dogs and roaming cats, we are not a luxury setting, so its not suitable for the skearmish. We like to just improve the place creatively,

Great setting for bird watching if you are into that. Just observe early morning birds when they somehow always arrive morning hours. From eagles to smaller ones. A variety of birds.

    happy travels!

    - native Greek family, if you ever nearly wanted to learn modern Greek, you can do that here, I am happy to spend time daily to talk some Greek with you, and although I am not a teacher by training I have been teaching Greek in the past as professional. It helps if you arrive knowing the alphabet only otherwise we will spend time starting with the alphabet.

    - I studied greek history in university so I can discuss with you about some key moments in hellenic studies.

    - My mother and I cook middle east and greek food that we can share with you (if you want). We also eat olives made in cyprus and can discuss abut Koumandaria (local sweet wine). Many tourists when the leave cyprus they buy koumandaria bottle from duty free :)) Its very sweet wine like Port of Portugal and usually I dont have it at home but there is a Wine Museum in a nearby village that you can access by walking 2km to bus station then taking a bus. There they give you samples of local wines. The ticket is 7 euro last time i checked (its a private museum about wines).
