    Description

    We are a historic home in rural Co Meath - in Ireland’s Ancient East. The house was built in 1777 and is surrounded by fertile farm land while being only half an hour from Dublin's city centre. It boasts a woodland trail and a romantic garden which is being rediscovered and open to the public on weekends during the Summer months. A French style cafe was added last year in an old coach house within a secluded courtyard. This year we commenced a new Allotment project where local enthusiasts can grow their own vegetables and fruit. We also have some other students who live in the house and we run one room as an occasional bnb with breakfast which you might be asked to help with

    The experience very much depends on the workaway and their desire to interact. Some people like to come and do their own thing on their days off, while others enjoy the odd communal meal, going for a weekly hike to local beauty spots or going to the local pub to listen to traditional music. There are many different types of projects and the learning and interaction depends on the skill and interests of the workaway. There are local trains that offer easy links to travel on overnight or day trips around Ireland. The owner is passionate about languages and spends time doing cryptic crosswords, so if improving your English is on the agenda you will be learning from the best.

    The type of projects depend on the skill of the individuals and which projects are a priority for the owner at the time of your arrival. Some routine and ongoing requirements are;
    - Working alongside the owner to maintain parts of the walled garden and wood land trail or maintaining allotments
    - Plumbing and carpentry skills are useful as there are always construction projects in a historic house
    - Possible work in woods...felling trees etc. Landscaping projects....
    - In the Spring and Summer we run a seasonal café and a passion for baking savoury and sweet treats and barista skills are very useful.

    We do not expect all individuals to have the same skills, it is better to be honest with what you are good at and what you are passionate about so you can be matched with the right tasks..

The bedrooms are all bright and have views of the front or back lawn and surrounding countryside. There is access to a bath and there is warm water daily in the morning and evening. There is a shared kitchen with the owner and a few other University students who may live in the house during term time. There is a large drawing room where we have a piano ( a bit out of tune ) and it is possible to go and read a book there, particularly nice in Summer months when the sun streams in the large windows.

    We offer free accommodation with private room ( in a part of Ireland close to urban centres where rents are high) heat and fuel bills are included, use of the washing machine, kitchen appliances and cooker, free wifi, access to all parts of the estate for running and walking, weekly allowance, transport to local grocery shops and train stations
