Description
Experience local life in the mountains of Costa Rica! Our historic hostel is a casual, friendly space in the very center of Santa Elena, Monteverde. We receive thousands of travelers each year-- from solo travelers, to backpacking couples, to families on long holidays with their kids. Our diverse clientele values a chill, cozy, central accommodation to have as home base while they explore the region's cloud forests and experience the adventurous activities of Monteverde.
Our small, close-knit team is looking for some volunteers to join us and help out around the hostel, keep the common areas tidy, give tour advice/help with bookings, and organize activities with the guests. Looking for someone with positive energy, respect for our space & team, and excitement for life! Talking with guests is a huge part of the job, so you need to be friendly, motivated, inspired and interested in learning. Volunteers live on-site and receive free delicious breakfast daily.
"Why Visit Monteverde, Costa Rica? You'll feel like you're on top of the world, but really, you've reached the central point of the nation's continental divide. In Monteverde, Costa Rica, the sun-kissed faces of beach dwelling locals are replaced by the warm smiles of farmers, artists, naturalists, and outdoor enthusiasts—particularly in the small yet pleasant town of Santa Elena." [monteverdeinfo.com]
Monteverde is one of Costa Rica's top 5 destinations, and one of the 2 main inland destinations in the country! If you're interested in experiencing an authentic Costa Rican town away from the beach, Monteverde is a beautiful place to slow down, relax, explore nature, and immerse yourself.
Our humble, 30-room hostel is the perfect home-base to explore the area. We offer our guests friendly service, cozy common areas, a large green central garden, delicious typical Costa Rican breakfast, and unbiased local tour information and booking assistance.
Located in the very center of town, we are right next to a variety of local restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and shops. The Cloud Forest Reserves are a short bus ride away, and every tour company passes right by our front door transporting to their various activities in the surrounding area. Some of the main activities the area is known for are: ziplining, coffee farm tours, canopy hanging bridges, waterfall hikes, nature hikes, night walks (for spotting wildlife), bungee jumping, horseback riding, and more.Types of help and learning opportunities

Help
We're looking for fun, positive, hardworking and motivated individuals who enjoy working with people, being part of a team, making new friends, and learning new things. Having a fluent+ level of English is necessary for the job; you need to be comfortable and confident having all types of conversations in English.
We are looking for help with general guest services & reception. Miscellaneous housekeeping and/or maintenance tasks might be requested occasionally, but certainly not the focus of your position, as we have full-time staff in these areas.
Reception tasks: Help check guests in, show them to their rooms, and explain the details of our property. Answer guest questions and requests. Answer inquiries/messages coming in. Keep common areas tidy (lobby, living room, kitchen).
Tours: Travelers visiting Monteverde are very active and looking to do many tours; it is important that we can provide guests with informative, unbiased tour recommendations and communicate clearly with tour providers to make reservations. Volunteers will learn all the tours we offer and help guests with reserving tours.
Activities: We are open to new ideas for hosting events and activities for guests + the community! We would love a volunteer who is inspired and excited with new ideas that can improve and bring new life into the space. Family dinners, cooking classes, language exchanges, dance classes, art activities, live music, happy hours, game nights, yoga classes, etc.!
