This was my first workaway experience and it was amazing!
I spent three months there last summer and I wish I could have stayed even longer.

We spent the days at the stables taking care of the horses, doing rides with customers, fixing fences and whatever else needed to be done. And when there was enough time we did fun rides on the big beautiful property. I never got bored!
The local volunteers made me feel welcome right away and everyone was just friendly and helped each other- there is a great atmosphere at the stables!

My stay at Eric's was definitely my favorite workaway activity so far! I not only felt welcome and treated as family, I loved the work and time at the stables as well. Beautiful surroundings, nice horses and funny tasks. Even tho it can be quite hard sometimes as the Stables are very busy in tourist season, it has always been a pleasure to work

It will not get boring as Eric and Joan will always think about different tasks and special jobs to do, keeping the whole stay very exciting and giving opportunities to gain as much experience as possible. One always has the chance to rest and relax at the pool on days off or do activities in the city etc. I have always been receiving the feeling of being looked after and Joan & Eric are really invested in creating a family atmosphere in the house. It was my first Workaway experience and it could not has been better!!! Eric and Joan and the rest of the crew were very welcoming and it was always a nice atmosphere in the house. The work at the stable is really fun. It is hard in the beginning but you will learn really quick because there is a team of kind volunteers who are gonna help you with any question or problem! It is so amazing to guide the trail rides you will meet people from all over the world and you have to speak english all day long so if you want to improve it it's perfect! You will get to ride a lot and there are so many horses for every level of riding experience.
If you love being outside, work with horses and deal with humans this is definitely a place for you. Even sometimes on my days off i decided to come to the stable just to ride or to help or to see the people who were working this day because everyone is so friendly and it was a good feeling to be around them.

Thank you sooo sooo much for the best time of my life!
I went to the stables for the first time in April 2023 for six weeks to improve my English and I was warmly welcomed into this big family. That was my first workaway and I could not have found anything better. We had a really good work-life-balance and had a good community at the stables. It

I really loved working with everyone at the stables, because there is a group of really friendly, helpful and sociable people. I felt so good around these people and everyone who is new will be a part of this team very quickly.
The horses are all very well behaved and calm. They have a lot of horses for beginners, but also horses for people with experience. So you will get a horse that fits you and it is not necessary that you are a perfect rider. It is just important that you enjoy the time around the horses and the work at the barn.
For myself, I enjoyed it soo much that I decided to come back in June 2023 and I will stay for a couple months. I was so excited to come back to Eric´s and see all the nice people and horses again. The last time was just too short, so if you decide to come to Memphis then I would recommend you to stay for at least 2 months. Especially for me it was way too short that's why I decided to come back for a longer time.
In conclusion, I would recommend everyone who is interested in horse riding, working at the barn and to socialize with very friendly persons, to contact Eric.
So thank you Eric and Joan for letting me live with you! <3You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Johanna used her time here to unwind a little from her normal busy routine in NYC. She was very helpful and you could tell she really had a passion for horses. This was my first experience with Workaway and it was actually life changing for me! Having lived the hustle and bustle city life in NYC for 5 years, I was craving a change. I know they say horses are healing- but boy is it really true!
I found a new sense of connectedness with nature and animals at this stable. When you are surrounded by 40
… read more horses you have to really be present in your body and be aware of what you're doing as you are responsible for the safety of yourself, the horses and also your team relies on you to be on top of your game. I loved collaborating with everyone at the stable, they were a group of super helpful people and they were all eager to help me learn and I felt really safe and seen and you were immedieatly included as part of the team. And we had a lot of fun!
The horses at this stable is super well kept, their health and well being is prioritized before all and it is reflected in the calm demeanours of the horses. Even though I had not been in a saddle for 20 years and was a bit nervous, the horses were so calm and sweet it was a super enjoyable experience. It was fun and a good learning experience to lead groups of tourists on trail rides in the woods and the nature around there is really beautiful.
Staying at Eric's ranch was comfortable and peaceful. He is a very kind and positive person to be around and offered lots of good recommendations for things to do around town when I had days off. There was always enough food to cook with and I enjoyed hanging out with the other Workawayer's staying there. I had plenty of time to experience all the tourist sights that I wanted to check out in Memphis, I can highly recommend Sun Studios, Graceland, live blues on Beale street, seeing a rodeo, as well as making a trip to Nashville and I also got to check out my very first Monster truck event!
Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity, I will definitely come back whenever I have the chance! :)You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

The work is definitely physical and long, but I found this fun and rewarding. Be prepared to ride for hours, work through heat and pouring rain, and be exhausted at the end of the day. I miss all of this!! One of the highlights of my stay was the horses. This is one of the sweetest and well-tempered group of horses (and ponies) I have ever met. Every day was a joy working with them, and I frequently found myself laughing at their silliness and talking to them like old friends (everyone does it haha).
Memphis is so beautiful and lively. I really enjoyed interacting with the customers and seeing the landmarks of the city. The accommodations are also very cozy and comfortable. Eric's house is remote and I enjoyed on my days off hiking and looking for the horses that roam free on his property.

I worked at the stables four days a week and take care of more than 30 lovely horses. I fed, brushed, prepared the horses and then I was ready to saddle up and take guests on trail rides ! It was a lot of work but it sure was a lot of fun as well. At the end

Melissa is everything you could want in a workaway volunteer. Her work ethic is great but more importantly, she is very sociable, smart, talented, funny and everyone from the staff to the guests loved her. She even had guests come back to ride repeatedly and request her as a guide. Back home at her university she is in the final year of studying

If you are sociable, dynamic, and you like being around horses and working with them this is the perfect place. Also you have some days off on the week, time to rest, or visiting the area if you'd like to.

I don't know how we keep getting blessed with such great workawayers. Just an hour after Juliane's plane landed she was already working with the horses. She was here through a very busy month and always worked hard. She has a great sense of humor and is very outgoing. We look forward to working with Juliane again in 2019.

It was a pleasure having Lizzy stay with us. She has a real passion for horses and has excellent equestrian skills. She was also very helpful assisting us when doing vet work on the horses. Lizzy is a very polite and pleasant person to be around. I highly recommend her.

I had an amazing time on this work away! Thanks to Eric for having me.

The ranch where you stay is a very special place. If you like the outdoors then you'll have a lot of fun wandering around 300 acres of beautiful southern countryside, exploring forests and pastures. There are lots of wild animals around if you keep your eyes open and a bunch of lakes on the ranch as well to swim or fish in. The rooms are comfy and clean and each room has its own TV with Netflix (luxury!). We took turns in the house preparing dinners and I was never left hungry. Eric was happy to give lifts into downtown or to other tourist spots when we wanted. Overall this was a really awesome workaway and a month just didn't seem long enough! Thanks Eric for all your generosity and friendship :)You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

It was my second workaway experience and I’m so lucky to have stayed there for 3 weeks.

The Ranch (where I slept) is very quiet, next to a lake, you can see horses by your windows it’s just amazing ! My Own bedroom, very confortable and cosy. I met a lot people : local and volunteer, I’m so grateful to Eric to have shared with me his experience, his good mood (all the time, it’s crazy lol) and his kindness.
