Description
Hosting this summer is possible only for a few days in June that are now passed, but we may open for workawayers in early 2025. Keep watching! We prefer one-week stays. Vans are welcome. We prefer to not cater to special meal or food preferences. If the month is green, send us a message! If the month is yellow or red, it is possible that we may not answer right away as we are very busy in our 'day jobs'.
In the spring of 2025, we may need some indoor work, including painting. And, in summer of 2025, we may like to do some raised bed building and gardening and some outdoor painting. If you are a trained electrician, we could use some advice and minor help, but will not ask for any electric work done that cannot be certified and insured.
American Swedish academic and Swedish translator---living in a small village very near larger civilization. We love Music (making it and listening to it), nature, travel, history, politics, and plenty of conversation.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Learn a little Swedish language and culture. Learn English too if you like. Meet well-travelled, broadly educated individuals who like to share their experiences and learn from others too.
Help
Need some help with maintenance of a historic house built in 1900. Consider joining us in Spring or Summer 2025!
We'd very much like to have some creative engineering students with energy and eco ideas to join us as well as woodworkers, painters, and eco-gardeners or even vintners. We also need individuals with plumbing and electrical skills NOT for work needing certification, but for advice, ideas, and some dismantling of old lights and such. Want to start a small vineyard? Musicians and artists welcome. No smoking or pets however, but a few friendly cats and hedgehogs do wander the property from time to time.Languages

We are writers and talkers and love languages. We are fluent in English and Swedish and between the two of us know a bit of French, Spanish, German, Russian, and Arabic.Accommodation
We prefer individuals who are open-minded and scientifically inclined.
Hosting anyone who is sick is not ideal, and we will always let our workawayers know if we become sick too, even with just a cough. COVID reminded us of the importance of respecting the health of others and ourselves. We are fans of vaccinations and modern medicine, even if we have great respect for alternative medicine.
If you come to Östergötland (East Sweden), there are great medieval sites to visit in the area as well as good fishing, hiking, kayaking, and more. Our home is within just 100 meters of river, canal, and large lake with sailing, wind surfing and beaches for swimming too (water temp is around 22C by July). We are happy to teach a little Swedish too, and for those with Swedish roots, this is an opportunity to look up ancestors and/or relatives.
We are reluctant to offer more than 4-7 days initially just in case things are not what any of us anticipated, BUT we can be flexible too. If things are great, and you are flexible, a few more days to a week is possible. Most of the time we need painting and gardening help, but if you are handy with construction, we can always use your help too. We would love to meet those with a bit of electrical expertise for general advice, especially if they are certified in the EU. Anyone who understands solar or wind power?! We'd love to jump off the grid with the right help (or at least find alternative ways to boost electricity). What else ...
Europeans can fly to Skavsta, Arlanda, or even Copenhagen and take a bus or train to Linköping which is not far from our home. KLM also flies directly from Amsterdam to Linköping. AND we are very responsive to your messages. If we are not hosting workawayers during some months, however, you will receive an automated reply. These do not always count towards the average time to respond data!
A little more information
Internet access
Limited internet access
We have pets
We are smokers
Can host families
Can host digital nomads
We do not currently have regular Internet connection. We use the free wifi down the street at our wonderful local library.
Space for parking camper vans
Vans work well in the front street. Smaller vans can park on the property. Small campers might work. Electricity is costly to us to share, but happy to fill the water tanks. So, write to us. It all depends on the situation and your talents.
Can possibly accept pets
Pets are wonderful, but again, it depends! In Sweden, all pets must be registered and chipped and on leash or indoors. There would likely be very few situations when we would say 'yes', but we are happy to hear your story.
