    Description

We are an off grid 15 acre ranch in the desert of El Pescadero, Baja Sur. 15 minutes from Cerritos beach, 25 min from Todos Santos. We have been developing our off grid Permaculture Farm and Eco village since 2019. We are working on gardens, increasing wildlife habitat, trail networks, and eco friendly infrastructure. Husband and wife team, Dane and Sabrina have been living off grid since 2017 and are chasing a goal for self sufficient living in harmony with nature. The area is abundant in exploration either the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains or the beaches of El Pescadero. We offer an enriching experience to reconnect with nature while living off the grid and developing a permaculture skillset.

Currently we have availability for 2 work away's to help (May and June) with finishing projects from the year and with the clean up and preparing the ranch for the summer heat and rains. Running a zero waste business, we need help with cleaning and storing all our glass bottles and jars, as well as a deep clean of our bakery and storing equipment for the summer. We could also use help with cleaning up the ranch of it's recycling that isn't needed and reorganization of construction piles and materials. All wood surfaces and structures also need their yearly fresh coat of stain to protect from the sun. Garden work consists of collecting rocks and reinforcing terraces and retaining walls around garden beds, as well as top dressing/mulching all plants. Trails need their yearly maintenance in order to not let trees and plants encroach on them. There are also some construction projects that need completing for someone who has such skills. Installing metal roofing over the bakery and other buildings, weatherproofing the main building, expanding the chicken run and installing an automatic door, fencing the front of the property and installing new gates to replace a few old ones.

There is space during the summer (July - October) for a caretaker of the ranch for the right person who can handle the summer heat. We will not be staying on the ranch but will be commuting back and forth from another location and could use someone to just watch over things and make sure chickens are safe. A couple hours a day is all that is required of actual work, the rest would just be a presence and safe place to stay in our concrete building on our beautiful ranch in exchange for regular provisions of a work away. The accommodations for this position is our main bedroom in the top floor of our building with King Bed. Very breezy and beautiful expansive views of the ocean and the mountains.

Starting in November 2024 we will be looking for 3 work away's to help in the following key areas for the winter season (long term preferred):
    1. Maintenance person: Keeping the common areas clean, dishes, raking, recycling, garbage, compost, bathrooms clean, and our trails clean and functional.
    2. Gardener/Farm worker: Help with chicken duties, watering gardens, weeding, keeping bird and bee baths full of water, mulching garden beds and harvesting produce as needed.
    3. Campground/Glamping Helper: Help with checking in our campers or glamping guests, raking and cleaning up after they leave, laundry, remaking beds from glamping, bathroom maintenance, and trail maintenance. Assisting with maintenance person's jobs when slow or not very busy.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Check out the local area for exploring like relaxing, whale watching, swimming or surfing at the popular and close by Cerritos Beach. Adventure to Todos Santos and stroll around the town checking out all the funky stores, colonial buildings and art galleries. Tour up into the beautiful little ranches and mexican pueblos beyond us and go for a dip in the year round mountain streams of the Sierra de la Laguna mountains. There are local busses in town if you want to go and see neighbouring areas like the very Mexican city La Paz or.the world famous tourist town of Los Cabos. Just relaxing on the rancho bird watching, reading in a hammock, wildlife viewing and journeying through our hiking trails in the ancient old growth cactus forests might be enough to satisfy your free time off work.
