Description
Hi, We are the Spratt family and have two children at home ages 15 and 12.
We live on a farm at Lower Moutere New Zealand which is at the top of the south island about 35 minute drive from Nelson City and 8 minutes from Motueka town. Close to our home are many fabulous beaches, rivers and larger towns and the area we live in would suit people who enjoy rural life, sea, sun, and outdoor activities. Motueka has a population of 7,000 that doubles in the summer months with tourists. It is a very popular holiday destination due to the fabulous summer climate, stunning scenery, walks, beaches and is the gateway to both the Kahurangi and Abel Tasman national parks. Motueka was also voted as New Zealand's top town 2013.
We moved here from England in 2005 and love everything New Zealand has to offer but also understand what it like to move to another country being away from family and friends. We love the outdoor lifestyle and spend our free time farming, gardening, walking, biking, fishing, etc. We also love family days out to the beach. Our home has five bedrooms with a big living area/kitchen/dining. Additionally to this we have a new self contained wing of the house with a large bedroom/living room, kitchen and bathroom/toilet. This would be your accommodation during your stay with us.
We have large gardens with 3 large ponds , potting shed, berry house and vegetable gardens. The farm has 26acres with large sheds, highland and beef cows, chickens, 2 dogs and 1cat. The area we live in is ideal for walking, running and cycling as is relatively flat and very scenic.
As we have to maintain all the above we always have projects going on and sometimes it could be that we need help with them or a bit of everything to keep things interesting.
We are a very easy-going family and are used to having people living with us for quite long periods as we have occasional overseas visitors and Au Pairs for the last 13 yrs.
We would expect five hrs of work each day, general helping around meal times etc. and in return we can offer food and accommodation in a home in the best area in New Zealand, flexible hours and an easy-going relaxed family atmosphere.Types of help and learning opportunities

Most welcome to come back!
We did a lot of great staff helping with gardening but generally taking care of the farm and complete many tasks.
The cows are lovely, we'll miss them!

Their two youngest children are sweethearts and it was so great to relax while being removed from a busy city corporate life in Auckland. I was able to have practice at handy skills in painting and planting. During my stay, I even got to… read more
I enjoyed a lot the time with them. The kids are so cute and nice. I had also a great time with Rachel, the au pair. We hang out together and had fun.
They are flexible and Clare makes really nice meals.
I stayed there for about 2 weeks and I wish I could go back there.

I stayed a bit more than two weeks with the Spratt family and this was the best dicision i have made so far in New Zealand. The picturesque and beautiful farm made my workdays relaxing and enjoyable. I picked Feijoas, did some gardening and mostly painted their new cupboard :-)
It really was a home away from home for me.
