Description
Hi there!
For your accommodations, in Nelson we have a spacious home with a spare room and a nice yard and deck, and on our land in the Slocan Valley, we have a very cute and cozy cabin, with a creek nearby. I have travelled a lot and enjoy meeting and getting to know people from other countries. I am passionate about nature and outdoor recreation, and can teach you about the local ecosystems if you are interested, and also give many recommendations of local places to explore and recreate: hiking, camping, biking, paddling, etc.
We like to cook and meals range from Indian curries to healthy salads to hamburgers on the BBQ.
We are a couple and there are one or two other people living in the house as well. You may have the opportunity to stay in our small cabin on our land during the week, if this interests you, which would be on your own.
We have land near Nelson where we are doing landscaping and environmental restoration projects, as well as building some small structures. We would welcome help with these projects! You will have the opportunity to experience the communities of Nelson and the Slocan Valley, and perhaps learn new skills in restoration, gardening, landscaping, and/or basic construction. In Nelson we would appreciate some help with our garden and yardwork, and maybe some maintenance of the house as well.
*Just to be clear, we live in Nelson, but most of our projects are happening on our land in Winlaw (approximately a 45 minute drive from Nelson).
We look forward to hearing from you and perhaps meeting you soon! Happy Travels!

We can offer assistance and support with learning English, if you are learning English. I am a teacher, and am especially passionate about the outdoors and nature. So I am happy to teach you about the natural ecosystems here. There are plenty of opportunities here for outdoor recreation, such as hiking, paddling, and biking. You may be able to borrow a paddle board to paddle on a local lake. On our land, you will have the opportunity to learn about the process of environmental restoration, organic gardening, and/or basic building and construction.

Help
We have land near Nelson where we are doing landscaping and environmental restoration projects, as well as building some small structures. We would welcome help with these projects! We are there on the weekends, and often Fridays as well. There may be the opportunity for you to stay there during the week in our cute and cozy cabin, with lots of sun, and near a creek.
The landscaping and environmental restoration projects include specific tasks such as: transplanting trees, digging up invasive weeds, planting seeds of native plants, building soil by sheet mulching, watering plants, etc. The building projects might involve helping to build a storage shed, covered deck, or fence, and may include tasks like: moving lumber, measuring and sawing lumber, using power tools, painting or staining wood, digging holes for fenceposts, etc. In addition we will need help with our garden, including planting, weeding, and watering.Languages

In Nelson, we have a spare room in our house that is available. There is a comfortable bed, and a small desk and closet. The room is small but cozy, with a window. A nice feature of the house is the partially covered deck, with a nice view, and the yard and garden. We are a couple and there are one or two other people living in the house as well. On the weekends we drive out to our land in the Slocan Valley, where the accommodation would be either camping or staying in our cabin.
You may have the opportunity to stay in our small cabin on our land during the week, if this interests you, which would be on your own.
We like to cook, and meals range from Indian curries to healthy salads to hamburgers on the BBQ. We would appreciate some help with preparing meals sometimes. Breakfasts are simple, and could be cereals, eggs and toast, yoghurt and fruit, etc.
*We can accommodate a couple, or one person .What else ...
In your free time in Nelson, you can walk downtown (25 minutes), or take the bus, and explore the interesting shops and cafes, or go to the beach at the lake, or see a band or a movie. You could choose to hike on the trails in the forest, only a 5 minute walk from our house. You may have the opportunity to borrow a paddle board to paddle on the lake.
In the Slocan Valley, the river is a short walk away, for a swim to cool off. There are also many choices of restaurants in Nelson. There are great hikes nearby as well.
