    Description

I live on an acre in the village of Papatowai in the Catlins. My home is a yurt with a separate outdoor bathroom (composting toilet, shower, washing machine and vanity) and I live fully off-grid with solar electricity and rainwater. The property backs onto beautiful native bush. I work from the town of Balclutha (45 min drive) 3 days a week. I like to live minimally and conscious of my impact on the planet.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I am a New Zealand who has travelled and lived abroad. 1.5 years living in a van through Europe, 2 years working in Australia and 1.5 years living in Israel, I love meeting and learning about different cultures and ways to do things. Workaways staying at my place can expect to learn about off-grid living, small village rural life in New Zealand and open, honest conversations. Living sustainably, sharing knowledge and being environmentally minded are all apart of my lifestyle.

Looking for people interested in off-grid living, and wanting to live in a way more harmoniously with nature and their surroundings. I would like help with projects around home and on the land including garden maintenance, small building projects, firewood splitting and stacking, lawn mowing etc and walking my dog Tesla. People with common sense, a desire to learn and basic gardening skills are most welcome!

    Accommodation

The yurt is one big room, including kitchen, couches, dining table, fireplace and my bed. Workaways that have their own van/sleeper vehicle accommodation, it can be parked up on the property. Otherwise, accommodation is in the yurt on an extra mattress with bedding provided or alternatively I have a tent with bedding that can be set up on the property also.

It would be great to cook together or even meals prepared as a part of your contribution.

Papatowai is a small town with 35 residents. It is walking distance to the beach. This area has waterfalls, good surfing spots, wildlife, beautiful nature and many nice walks.
The nearest supermarket is a 30 min drive so it is advised to bring your own snacks. Please let me know in advance if you have dietary requirements. I am vegetarian (but flexible) myself. There is no public transport so having your own vehicle is preferred. We have Vodafone and 2 degrees reception (no Spark) and good Wifi.
