Description
Our boat yard is located right near the base of Waimea Canyon on the sunny west side of Kauaʻi.
Na Pali Coast is regarded as the most beautiful portion of all of Hawaii and we run a boat tour company that specializes in touring and snorkeling this incredible coast line. We need your help keeping these boats clean and fit for touring and of course, you may join our tours as often as there are seats available:)Types of help and learning opportunities
Help with Eco ProjectsGeneral MaintenanceCultural exchange and learning opportunities
Workawayers will benefit by having great working hours that allow them to have every day off to enjoy Kauaʻi and what the island has to offer. On an island so expensive that even crowded hostels are upwards of 50 dollars per night, we think we have found a great way to have a typically younger crowd be able to spend at least a month on this beautiful island without the financial burden.
As mentioned, workawayers would be able to join (as often as they want) a Na Pali Coast tour at any time provided there are open seats (a somewhat common and likely occurrence daily). This is the number 1 activity in Hawaii and is normally very expensive but our workawayers always ride free and unlimited and have the flexibility to cherry pick those perfect weather days since they have a month long window to choose from.
Workawayers would likely make friends with the captains and crew and other workawayers (weʻll have 2 to 3 other workawayers at a time) which could open up some opportunities to do fun things with new friends (canʻt promise compatibility but we always try to pick down to earth and seemingly friendly workawayers both male and female). Workawayers can expect to learn a lot about boats (if interested) and even a little about the business side of things if they are curious and want to learn about what it takes to run a business in Hawaii.Host offers payment in line with the minimum wage

Help
The work required is simple and doesnʻt take an experienced boat cleaner by any means. The job can be taught in a single shift or 2 to almost anyone with the desire and energy to learn. Typically we have 3 workawayers at a time with 6 boats that need to be cleaned, nightly. Your task would be to clean at least 2 boats per night as well as other miscellaneous odd jobs around the shop to keep things clean and orderly.
Enjoy great working hours (only 2 - 3 hours per night on average and nearly all of your days free to roam). This means youʻll have nearly every single "day" off to enjoy what Kauaʻi has to offer. I say "nearly" because occasionally there will be a day here and a day there that we will have little things that need to be done just to keep the overall shop/boat yard/ your living space clean and tighty (weedwack, wipe down dusty areas, clean out refrigerator, clean bathroom, hose out the boat stalls, etc).
Note: We are a bit OCD so if you are a sloppy or messy person, this will not be a good fit for you and will almost certainly result in conflict (just be honest with yourself to save us all the time and drama). We run a very tight ship and top shelf operation so we expect our boats, boat yard, and your living space to be very organized and clean at all times. If this is seen as a good thing to you, because it means youʻll be living in a clean, organized environment, then you have the personality type that we desire :)Languages spoken

Accommodation
Our workaway accommodation is situated in a large fenced in yard (legally zoned commercial residential) where the boats are also kept at night. Other than our restroom and boat tents, there are no fixed structures on this boat yard. Each of the 6 boats are under large tents, and your sleeping headquarters is in a shed-like structure with bunk beds (better than a tent, not as good as a house haha). This yard has a hot water outdoor shower (with curtains), indoor bathroom (even has urinals), unlimited use of electricity and water, a mini refrigerator, full size freezer, propane BBQ grille, propane 2 burner hot burners, microwave, internet, picnic tables, pots and pants, silverware, etc.
Attention= We really donʻt want to catch anyone by surprise and would rather under promise than accidentally over promise. We need all workawayers to be very clear that you are literally "camping" at a boat yard (maybe glamping but still, you get the picture). Yes we have all the amenities listed above as well as a shed with a couple bunk beds in it (all beddings clean and included), but this is not a house or anything even close to it. If you plan to be gone during the day exploring, and just need a place to keep your stuff and crash at night after working, this is ideal for you and you are ideal for us.
However, if you are looking for a place to lounge during the day and wanted more of a home-like experience, this would be a terrible fit for you as it is nothing more than an empty, typically very hot, boat yard during the day while all the boats are gone on their tours. It is our hopes that during the day you would instead be out enjoying Kauai, hiking, cliff jumping, hanging at the beaches, going on our boat tours, etc.
NOTE: Minimum length of stay for our workawayers is exactly 1 month. No exceptions or our scheduling gets very complicated and training is not worth the short stay. You can stay for 2 months, 3 months, etc, but it would also have to be an exact month again and again, in 1 month increments. Check the calendar for when we have availability. What else ...
Our yard is located right near the base of Waimea Canyon on the sunny west side of Kauaʻi. The Waimea canyon has a plethora of some of the most incredible hikes in the State. Less than a 5 minute walk is a bus stop that links to the entire island although if you have a drivers license, getting a car is even better (and we can help you with that). Workawayers can also enjoy the sunny beaches of the west side of Kauaʻi without the need to drive (Boat yard is literally 2 minutes walking distance from the beach). Workawayers need to be reliable, trust worthy, and meticulous and preferably the independent yet adventurous type. Mahalo! :)
