Description
Staying with us gives you the opportunity to really live with an Amazonian Tikuna indigenous community. You will live in our lodge to share with travelers from all over the world and at the same time learn about our culture and way of life.
You will be an integral part of our family and development, your contribution will be greatly valued.
If you speak English and Spanish you have the opportunity to with our guests on their tours and help them understand our guides. If you do not speak English, do not worry, you will also have the possibility of accompanying a tour and getting to know the jungle and the river, it is part of what you earn when you come as a Workawayer.

The Tikuna people of San Martin de Amacayacu are kind, cheerful, talkative and helpful. You will never feel alone because there are always many people associated to the lodge for work or to sell agricultural products. You will have many opportunities to talk and learn about the rich Amazonian culture and way of life. By joining the guests on their excursions or taking a canoe for a spin, you will be able to immerse yourself in the lush green environment and learn about this from an indigenous perspective. Being with the lodge´s guests also provides a really good opportunity to learn from their way of life and views on the world. Doing the logistics for the lodge provides a really interesting learning experience because the community conditions are very different from a hotel in a city.
Help
You are parte of our hosting team and you make sure the guests will be in the right room and go on their scheduled activities. If needed, you go with the guests to translate between spanish and english, or just for fun! Our ideal workawayer is resourceful, communicative, organized, efficient, self-confident, social and has good personal higiene. Good english and spanish language skills are required. The Amazon jungle absolutely amazing and generally hot, humid and there may be mosquitos certain nights.

For our dear workawayers, we will always provide a safe place to sleep on a decent mattress with clean sheets, pillow and mosquito net. Please bring your own towel and rubber boots. You may have to change rooms at certain moments, according to the guest room occupation calender. There are western toilets and shower. Food is prepared by the kitchen staff, vegetarian or vegan no problem. Laundry is generally done by hand in the river, workawayers wash their own clothes, we wash their sheets. Don´t worry, your clothes will actually be clean!
What else ...
You arrive in the Colombian Amazone by airplane from Bogotá. Access to San Martin de Amacayacu is by boat only. An express boat from Leticia goes there three times a day. On free moments, our volunteers usually chill in the hammocks, read books, practise yoga, watch a local soccer game, swim in the river, go for walks, play a game, talk with the guests, etc.
