Description
We are a young couple who left our jobs to seek a new adventure in Central Portugal. We bought a piece of land with two stonehouses and some ruins in a valley by the river near Avelar.
We have been here 8 months with our two dogs and cat. Our animals are easy-going and sweet. We are looking to share our experience with like-minded people who aren't afraid of some hard work and good times.
What we expect: around 4 hours work/day doing some clearing around the ruins, gardening, repointing walls and creating water systems. We are also open for inspiration and new perspectives.
We can offer a nice tent pitch in our olive grove close to the river (big tent available if you don't have one) and a nicely homecooked meal per day (in the evenings). We are omnivores but are happy to cater for different diets. During the day there will be coffee, tea, juice and picnic food available.
On Sundays, we get a nice organic veg box to cook our meals with for the week. The baker also comes Mon-Sat at around 8am.
We have a river bathing spot next to our land and are 20min away by foot from the Fragas de Sao Simao praia fluvial.
We have a composting toilet and also the possibility for an outdoor hot camping shower if you don't fancy a dip in the river.
We can take you to weekly markets and any events in the area. We live in a valley, a bit isolated but not too much, so a car and driving license would make things easier for you.
We are just starting out and are looking for people who would like to chill in a beautiful spot and who are ready to see what its like to be at the beginning of such a lifechange. We like company but also value privacy, so if what we are writing here, resonates with you, please get in touch.
We would love to here from you 🙂Types of help and learning opportunities

Peace of mind, time to think, next to a great water source/swimming spot/fishing spot, if interested you can practise your English, French, German or Luxembourgish with us, very close to one of the most popular local tourist destinations (Fragas de Sao Simao), local walking paths, nice markets in the area (Graça, Espinhal, Tomar...), good food, tranquility and good company. 🙂

Help
Clearing the ruins, gardening, creating water systems, cutting down and stacking eukalyptus trees, repointing the walls. No experience needed, if you have it, great, if not, let's learn together. 🙂 Initiative and common sense is all you need.

Exploring the local area, schist village nearby, exploring the city of Tomar (half an hour by car), daily coach to Coimbra, beautiful viewpoints of the Fragas for the last sun, walking/hiking, relaxing, going to markets, going to Penela for some nice pub food, ... there is much more but we are newbies too, so some things we could explore together if there is an interest 😃
