My stay with Kimberly in the Santa Monica Mountains was incredible! Kimberly is a great and welcoming host and anyone who enjoys being around animals and physical work should just go if you have the chance.
Thanks Kimberly for a truly
wonderful stay!!

Peter was such a nice person to have around! Not only was he a willing and hard worker, but he also made things fun and enjoyable! He was super respectful and a quick learner. Even though he did not have experience with horses prior to his arrival, he quickly got up to speed and did a fantastic job and really cared so much for the horses and dogs.

I stayed with Kimberly for almost five months, and I had a wonderful experience. Coming from Chicago, I learned so much about animals, the outdoors, gardening, maintenance, and tools/equipment. I enjoyed feeding and taking care of the horses, and I even went on a few rides. Kimberly is very knowledgeable and was a good teacher when it came to the
… read more tasks to be performed. The tasks are varied throughout the day, and we also did larger projects once or twice a week. I wanted to learn new skills and use tools and fix things/build things, and she definitely provided the opportunity for all of that. I had a car out there, so I was able to go surfing between feeding the animals. On the weekends, I would drive to Venice Beach to play volleyball or go on trips to Santa Barbara or San Diego. I loved being in nature around Kimberly's property and also everything LA has to offer. Kimberly provided a bedroom and food stipend, and on sunny days we could jump in the pool or go on hikes. Hot tub and grilling at night. Highly recommend and hope to be back someday! You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

My stay with Kimberly was an awesome experience! Her place is fantastic and the horses and dogs are just the best. They are sweet, well behaved and it's easy to love them and work with them.
I absolutely loved my time there, although I unfortunately just stayed for a short time, filling in for a period in between helpers.
My daily routine was
… read more mostly as described: feeding, taking the horses out, muck stalls and pasture, taking care of the animals, as well as general chores around the house, garden and pool.
As awesome as staying at Kimberly's was, you should consider that the tasks mostly are physical labor. The chores require a willingness to get things done the way Kimberly requires them and you will for sure get dirty. However, if you have worked with horses before, it should be nothing to surprise you. And if you love animals, the work doesn't feel like work at all!
Plus, the beautiful nature and the proximity to the ocean make the place even more amazing to work at.
Kimberly herself is an incredibly person, hard working, driven, smart, genuine, and warm. She was not traveling as much as usual when I stayed with her, so I got to spend a lot of time with her and her horses beyond my usual tasks.
If you love animals, are willing to work hard and thorough, you will have the best time - and despite your tasks will still have enough free time to enjoy at the pool, in the breathtaking nature or while just hanging out with the dogs and horses!
I truly miss staying with Kimberly and the animals and I hope you will have the same experience! You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Left by host for Workawayer (Linda)
Linda spent about 8 months with us and was truly a blessing. She was hard working, taking care of the horses and dogs during the week while I worked, as well as many other household chores. She also took care of my 94 year old father, preparing meals, guiding him through exercises, and most importantly being there as a companion for him. She

I trusted her completely to care for my father and animals at times when I had to go out of town for work. She is welcome to come back any time for a visit or stay as we all miss her very much!!

This was my first Workaway experience and I absolutely loved it. During my months here I have had the opportunity to gain skills in horse care, gardening and many other manual skills. My normal daily routine has been to feed the dogs in the morning/evening, feed/care for the horses in the morning/afternoon/evening, muck the stalls, water the
… read more plants, and complete other tasks as needed. Kimberly is a sweet host that likes to get work done! She is detail oriented and embraces structure so you will be provided with a weekly schedule, which I personally loved because it helped me stay focused. There is quite a lot of physical work, so if you’re into fitness this is the place for you! As for the location, it is absolutely gorgeous and I have loved being so close to Malibu beaches and the Santa Monica Mountains. There are many trails to explore and the scenery is breathtaking. Another plus is her neighbors are all sweethearts and friendly. I have genuinely enjoyed my stay here and hope that the next Workawayer(s) will love it as much as I did!You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.
