  Description

  This is a community located in Huanchaco, La Libertad, Peru, an underdeveloped town with significant economic needs and a lack of infrastructure such as potable water, sewage systems, and garbage collection. This is a project that aims to harness the waves of Huanchaco, a world surfing reserve, as a means to transform the future of the children of Cerrito de la Virgen through educational surfing, empowerment, values, and sport, breaking down economic barriers through the sea.
  
  We began the project in November 2021, when Brayan Hilario, a young athlete born in Cerrito de la Virgen, saw surfing as an opportunity to help the children of his community who lacked access to the sport or even the ocean. With the support of a partner, he co-founded the surf school to provide completely free lessons. The project began with just 3 children, and during its 4 years of operation, it has grown to 117 children today, transforming lives through educational surfing and empowering the children of Cerrito de la Virgen. The sea is our school, surfing our tool, educating and empowering on a board. Take Jhonatan, for example, who joined the foundation at age 10, overweight and afraid of the sea. Thanks to the foundation, he not only overcame his fears and improved his physical condition but also became a great surfer and is now a teacher and volunteer, sharing his knowledge with children in his community.
  
  We also have a team of young people who compete in local and national surfing and Lomborg championships in the Under 12 Girls' and Boys' categories, where we have won several trophies and medals. Our goal is to have a World Champion!

  Este es una Comunidad Ubicada en Huanchaco, La Libertad,Peru, un pueblo subdesarrollado con grandes carencias economicas y falta de infrestructura como agua potable, alcantarillado, sistema de recolección de basura, etc. Este es una ONG, que tiene como objetivo aprovechar las olas de Huanchaco, reserva mundial de surf, como un medio para transformar el futuro de la niñez de Cerrito de la virgen con el surf educativo, empodermiento, valores y deporte, rompiendo barreras económicas a través del mar.
  Comenzamos el proyecto en noviembre de 2021,cuando Brayan Hilario, un joven deportista nacido en el cerrito de la virgen, vio en el surf la oportunidad de ayudar a los niños de su comunidad que no contaban con la posibilidad de acceder a este deporte o siquiera de disfrutar del mar, y con el apoyo de una socia co-fundaron escuela de surf con el fin de brindar clases de manera totalmente gratuita. El proyecto inició con solo 3 niños, y durante los 4 años de funcionamiento ha crecido hasta tener 117 en la actualidad, transformando vidas a través del surf educativo, empoderando la niñez de cerrito de la virgen. El mar es nuestra escuela, el surf nuestra herramienta, educando y empoderando sobre una tabla. Como en el caso de Jhonatan, que ingresó a la fundación a los 10 años de edad con sobrepeso y miedo al mar. Gracias a la fundación, no sólo venció sus miedos y mejoró su condición física sino que se convirtió en un gran surfista y ahora es profesor y voluntario, transmitiendo sus conocimientos a los niños de su comunidad.
  Además, conformamos un equipo de jóvenes que compiten en campeonatos locales y nacionales de tabla y lomborg en las Categorias Sub 12 Dama y Niño, donde hemos conseguido varias copas y medallas. Nuestra meta es lograr tener un Campeon Mundial representado por Cerrito de la Virgen.
  Venimos recaudando fondos vendiendo rifas y los polos del proyecto, también recibiendo ayuda de cada voluntario mediante las redes sociales y páginas web, sin embargo esto no es suficiente. Para cumplir con nuestra misión, necesitamos ayuda para enfrentar las siguientes olas

  Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

  You will learn about the workings of a small NGO. This provides volunteers with more responsibilities and more flexibility in their role. We can tailor your experience based on your interests and what you want to do! Volunteering with us means taking on a wide range of opportunities to be creative, as you can bring your own ideas to the table.
  
  There is the opportunity to improve your spanish! Particularly among the kids, very little English is spoken but there is no better way to learn than being thrown into it. There are also practical skills to be learned. We have ambitious plans to improve the academy, with plans for more building work. We have just constructed a private bathroom in the school and a raised platform in the garden to carry out other activities.
  
  Living in Huanchaco and working in Cerrito will provide a truly unique international experience and the ability to immerse yourself in the local culture. You will be working in a team of dedicated and passionate individuals who are really trying to make a difference. Working with kids from disadvantaged backgrounds is always an enriching and rewarding experience, particularly when our organisation is aimed at improving mental and physical wellbeing through group discussion and physical activity. Through working with us, you will become part of the local community and directly be able to see the benefits of your work.

  Aprenderás sobre el funcionamiento de una pequeña ONG. Esto ofrece a los voluntarios más responsabilidades y flexibilidad en su puesto. Podemos adaptar tu experiencia basado en tus intereses y lo que quisieras hacer. El trabajo con nosotros significa que puedes asumir una amplia gama de oportunidades para estar creativo, como puedas aportar tus ideas al equipo.
  
  También, hay una oportunidad para mejorar tu español! Especialmente entre los niños, no hablan inglés pero no hay mejor manera de aprender! Asimismo, hay habilidades prácticas para aprender. Tenemos planes ambiciosos para mejorar la academia en Cerrito, como obras de construcción. Acabamos de construir un baño privado en la academia y y una plataforma en el jardín por otras actividades.
  
  Vivir en Huanchaco y Trabajar en Cerrito te ofrecerá una experiencia internacional y única, y la posibilidad de sumergirte en la cultura local. Trabajarás en un equipo de individuos entregados y apasionados quienes están tratando de hacer una diferencia.   The team is now looking for incredible individuals who can take our organisation to the next level and get even more kids into the water. We are looking for motivated, hands-on volunteers that are keen to get stuck into anything and are driven to get to know our local community and culture. There are a variety of roles to be taken up within our team, and as we are a small organisation you could be instrumental in shaping the future!
  
  Of course volunteers can get involved with the surf lessons, whether that is helping the younger kids get used to being in the water, leading the pre surf stretch or coaching the more advanced surfers out the back, there is always a way to get involved. When you are not in the surf classes, you could be helping us with the administration and expansion of our organisation. We need help with marketing, fundraising, development, community outreach, construction, as well as class planning and preparation. There’s something for everyone!
  
  We are looking for kind, caring and energetic adults! Being able to surf isn’t as important as being passionate about and committed to youth development and having fun in the water. We want positive role models who love kids! If you think you could be the next member of our team and spread our love for the water, surf and nature with the loveliest kids in the incredible Peruvian coast, please join us!

  El equipo de ahora está buscando personas increíbles que puedan llevar a nuestra organización al siguiente nivel y llevar a más niños al agua. Estamos buscando voluntarios motivados y prácticos que estén dispuestos a involucrarse en cualquier cosa y estén motivados para conocer nuestra comunidad y cultura local.   Our volunteer house is located in Cerrito La Virgen – Huanchaco, a small, quiet, and safe town, ideal for those seeking a relaxed and community-oriented environment. The house is located within the surf school, allowing you to participate in daily activities.
  
  We offer a shared room for six volunteers at a minimal rental cost, with a shared bathroom and a fully equipped shared kitchen for volunteer use. We also have bicycles available, perfect for getting around the area and easily reaching the beach or the town center.
  
  The house is just 10 minutes from Huanchaco beach, a coastal city renowned for its surf culture and very popular with both national and international tourists. In Huanchaco, you'll find everything you need: markets, restaurants, cafes, transportation, and a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. We also have a surf school if you're interested in learning to surf.

  Nuestra casa de voluntarios se encuentra en Cerrito La Virgen – Huanchaco, un centro poblado pequeño, tranquilo y seguro, ideal para quienes buscan un ambiente relajado y comunitario. La casa está ubicada dentro de la misma escuela de Surf Cerrto,asi podran participar diariamente en las actividades.
  
  Ofrecemos una Habitacion compartido para 6 voluntarios teniendo un costo minino de renta, baño compartido y cocina compartida, totalmente equipada para el uso de los voluntarios. Además, contamos con bicicletas disponibles, perfectas para movilizarse por la zona y llegar fácilmente a la playa o al centro del pueblo.
  
  La casa se encuentra a solo 10 minutos de la playa de Huanchaco, una ciudad costera reconocida por su cultura del surf y muy popular entre turistas nacionales e internacionales. En Huanchaco podrás encontrar todo lo necesario: mercados, restaurantes, cafés, transporte y un ambiente vibrante y acogedor.
  Contamos con una escuela surf si te interesa aprender a surfear.

  What else ...

  Huanchaco is an amazing place to stay for a while. The waves are perfect year-round and ideal for both beginner and expert surfers. Since the town is a World Surfing Reserve, there's a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere in Huanchaco. Many Peruvian and international tourists and backpackers come to Huanchaco, which means the people are really friendly and welcoming. There's also a range of traditional and international cuisine available, with many cafes and restaurants in town. The local food is incredible, with fresh ceviche available on every corner. Local fishermen still use their traditional reed boats, called caballitos de totora, to catch fresh fish every day.
  
  For activities outside of Huanchaco, there are opportunities for hiking in the nearby mountains. Huanchaco is a surf town, and as such, there are frequent excursions to other famous spots on the northern Peruvian coast, such as Chicama, Lobitos, and Máncora. For example, Chicama is known for having the longest left-hand wave in the world and is about 45 minutes from Huanchaco. For cultural activities, the capital of the Chimú civilization, Chan Chan, is just 10 minutes from Huanchaco and is the largest pre-Columbian city in the Americas. Trujillo is also only 25 minutes from Huanchaco. Trujillo is the third largest city in Peru, a beautiful city with colorful buildings and lovely colonial-era churches. If you'd like to travel further afield during your free time, there are regular buses to stunning Andean cities like Cajamarca and Huaraz.

  Huanchaco es un lugar increíble para quedarse durante algún tiempo. Las olas son perfectas todo el año, y son ideales para los surfistas principiantes y expertos. Dado que el pueblo es una Reserva Mundial de Surf, hay un ambiente relajado y tranquilo en Huanchaco. Muchas turistas y mochileros peruanos e internacionales vienen a Huanchaco, lo que significa que la gente es realmente amable y acogedora. También hay una gama de cocinas tradicionales e internacionales disponibles, con muchos cafés y restaurantes en el pueblo. La comida local es increíble con ceviche fresco disponible en cada esquina. Por ejemplo, Chicama se caracteriza por tener la ola de izquierda más larga del mundo, y está a 45 minutos desde Huanchaco. Por las actividades culturales, la capital del pueblo Chimú, se llama Chan Chan está a 10 minutos de Huanchaco, y es la ciudad pre'Colombina más grande de América. También, Trujillo está a solo 25 minutos de Huanchaco. Trujillo es la tercera ciudad más grande de Peru, una hermosa ciudad con edificios coloridos y bonitas iglesias de la época colonial. Si quieres viajar más lejos durante tu tiempo libre, hay autobuses regulares a impresionantes ciudades andinas como Cajamarca y Huaraz.
