  • Description

Paul here! I've been full of curiosity and energy for as long as I can remember, with an interest in the challenges and joys of communication. I love being outside and meeting new people, and in the coming years I hope to refresh my connection with nature, to push myself to look at things in new ways, and to learn how I can be most beneficial to the communities I find myself in!

  • More details about your skills

I have a lot of energy and love being outside, and have experience with hiking, backpacking, and solo travel! I feel comfortable doing physical work and have experience with outdoor projects and gardening. I really admire the personal bond with the environment that one can form through outdoor work, and I'd love to learn as much as I can from those who have knowledge in this field. While I've loved many aspects of living in cities, working at the computer and having to squeeze nature time into my schedule leaves me feeling so unfulfilled, and in the future I would love to direct my life more toward some kind of outdoor work, though I'm still figuring out exactly what. Workaway I hope will be a great step on this journey!

My most recent job was as a barista in Seattle's Pike Place Market, a position which really pushed my social skills and taught me numerous lessons I've since applied elsewhere in life. Interacting with hundreds of customers every day taught me to converse clearly with a wide range of communication styles, and to go into every interaction with a positive, flexible mindset, while nonetheless being ready to stand up for myself if necessary. More than anything, the relationships I formed with coworkers taught me to take a more active role in developing a sense of community and extending support to others.

I studied English Literature and Philosophy at university, and in the process I learned to ask more discerning questions, and became a better writer. I'd love to gain experience writing in more collaborative contexts, so let me know if there's any writing or editing projects I can help with! And more broadly, I simply love conversation, and truly believe in its potential to change the world. I'm happy to talk about everything imaginable with anyone I meet. Not only is everyone full of unique outlooks and experiences, but even familiar subjects become new when discussing them with different people!
