Hi lovely hosts and fellow travellers,
My name is Áine (confusingly pronounced Awwnya!). I'm passionate about international volunteering, and after spending two years as Programmes Coordinator for an international volunteering NGO based in Dublin, I embarked on my own journey of travel and self-discovery.
I've been slow travelling for 15 months now in Europe and South East Asia. In that time I've worked, lived and made connections with more people than I had in the rest of my life. I've volunteered in schools, cafés, a bhuddist centre, a farm, an arts and crafts workshop and a surf camp...I've been teaching, cooking, creating, weeding, welcoming and learning all the while!
I love the great outdoors, rock-climbing, rollerblading, diving, music, art, card games, sharing stories, meeting new people and picking their brains about anything from what they like to eat to the meaning of our existence!Interests

I love languages and teaching them! I have a Cambridge TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Certificate and I've spent about two years teaching English to non-native speakers, in beautiful Spain and in my native Ireland. I'm excited to learn new languages during my travels.Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

I've developed an eclectic mix of skills over the years a range of work and non-work experiences.
For the past 2 years I've worked as Programmes Coordinator for an NGO in Ireland, which promotes peace and social justice through various international volunteer programmes and education workshops. My work has included:
-Developing and managing volunteer and education projects
-Grants and reports writing
-Networking with partner organisations
-Engaging and supporting volunteers
-Promotions and social media management
-Plenty of admin for all of the above!
Other skills include:
- Teaching: I've worked as an English teacher in academies in Spain and Ireland. I'm passionate about non-formal education, and have led workshops on climate justice, social inclusion, global issues and activism.
- Customer Service: I worked in retail throughout university so I am an expert in dealing with people, their queries, their complains and the general behind-the-scenes of a business.
- Childcare: I worked as an au pair in Spain for multiple summers as a teenager. I also come from a very big extended family so am very used to being on babysitting duty!
- DIY: During Covid I did some house renovations so I've dabbled in gardening, painting, and general house maintenanceAge

What else ...
I've been solo travelling since high school and I've lived abroad at different points in my life so I've developed a lot of 'life skills'. All of this travel has helped me to become a very easy-going, adaptable and open-minded person. Put me to any task and I'm pretty happy to give it my best shot and learn along the way!

She is self-sufficient and very quickly got on with the whole group.
We would welcome her back anytime :) Thank you so much for all your help!
Living in a house with the other volunteers is really special. There is always a multinational group of volunteers from very different backgrounds. Living together allows you to get to know everyone really well, learn a lot from each other, and share so many wonderful… read more
