  • Description

I began Workaway/Wwoofing in April 2023 and it's been a great journey from a specialist Japanese vegetable farm in the UK (via Wwoofing website) to farms and homesteads in the UK and abroad. I'm especially keen to learn animal husbandry skills and or volunteer where there are pets from cats, dogs and rabbits to pigs that need cuddling and or walking!
I enjoy working out of doors and I like to bicycle and trek to keep fit. I can work independently as well as part of a team - the teams I've been with have been great for the stories and life-experiences as well as skill sharing.
I'm a flexible practical person who's not afraid to get dirty! I have a keen eye for detail and am eager to learn.

  • More details about your skills

I've recently wwoofed on a farm in the Cotswolds supporting lambing (delightful!) and also feeding/cleaning up after cattle and horses, checking on animals and helping to move them.
As a result I'd particularly like the opportunity to develop my animal husbandry skills.
In Italy I helped with clearing out an old water cistern, gardening, cleaned and repainting the interior of their new rental house. Also me and another volunteered visited the neighbouring goat farm (cheese makers) and cleaning out the embedded straw and goat poo from the stable, so I'm happy getting dirty!
I've also worked on a variety of horticultural homesteads and gained experience in strimming, weeding, hoeing, digging, preparing the soil for planting. Sewing - for greenhouse and directly into the ground, repotting, planting. Harvesting and weighing/packing vegetables for transport.
I had a career in the NHS as a clinical photographer so can work in pressured environments and also help out with documentation/publicity photos :)
I'm a fit practical person and keen to learn new skills.
