  • Description

My name is Catherine Grizzard and I'm from the United States, specifically, the southern state of Georgia. I took a gap year when I turned 18 and used Workaway to live and travel in 7 countries for 9 months. Since then, I've worked in Alaska for several months and traveled solo to many different countries. I couldn't get enough of it so here I am setting out on my next big adventure. I've found out that I'm most interested in cultural exchanges rather than seeing the most touristy spot. I love staying in hostels and taking the local transport because I find that I meet the most people this way. And I love rural life, the more remote the better.

I'm really passionate about people and different ways of life around the world. I want to learn from the locals and teach others about my culture as well. I'm really motivated, ready to work, and I've got a lot of great stories to tell. So I can't wait to meet you! :)

  • More details about your skills

I've worked on farms, taught English, helped with an NGO for women's equality, lived in the jungle for a monkey rehabilitation project, aided Venezuelan refugees, and worked in hostels. There are so many experiences to have and I'm interested in all of them. I've had experience working as a birthday party host for children - so I'm pretty good with adults and kids both! I'm able to help with childcare, cleaning, and hostel reception work without much guidance once shown the ropes.

I'm easily adaptable to any situation, nothing phases me at this point. I love people too, I love to connect with my hosts and create long-lasting relationships with them. Whatever task you need me to do, I can do it if given guidance. I like the challenge and the culture shock of working somewhere new.

Most of my skills revolve around children, teaching English, and farm work, but I'm willing to try anything.

  • What else ...

My hobbies include theatre, reading, and hiking. I love the outdoors, anything from waterfall jumping to camping. My favorite activity in the city is walking around and absorbing it all. I'm a pretty big foodie as well so I love trying new things! Most unique things I've tried while abroad...probably armadillo or tree grubs.

I enjoy a bit of cooking, swimming, and piano playing. Also open to finding new hobbies while abroad!

Would like to learn more about humanitarian aid, eco projects, and animal care as I would like to be skilled and more informed on these matters.

I'm really looking for an authentic experience either out in nature or with a host who's interested in sharing all aspects of the culture. I really enjoy discussions on different matters because I like knowing other's points of view.
