Hey there :) I want to take the next few months to explore Central America especially Guatemala or somewhere warm :) I think one month working and then two weeks backpacking is a good balance!

Hey there!
My name is Hyrum but I go by my middle name which is Wyatt. I am an avid backpacker and love long distance hikes and basically anything outdoors.
My former job at an airport allowed me to take short "vacations" to many places last year but I prefer more long term travel so I left that job in hopes of being able to travel in a way that connects me more to the people and land.

I believe that travel is the purest form of education but I have not lived by that motto as much as I would wish. The short trips that I have taken don't even scratch the surface of what you can learn and I desperately need to change that!

I am introverted by nature but love making new friends. I wish I read books more often and want to start running again. I like learning about people's lives and adventures they've had and especially click with people who have easygoing and mellow personalities. :)

I have worked a plethora of different types of jobs but they all have had one thing in common: outdoors. It's safe to say that's where I thrive best. Spending one summer on a commercial potato farm, two summers working general landscaping, three summers at a country club cleaning river rafts and teaching archery, one summer of door to door sales (absolute nightmare), and lastly; a full year working at an airport throwing bags! All outdoors and somewhat physical is all I know and certainly what I love as far as labor goes.

I want to follow a similar theme through workaway and find the perfect balance between working and exploring.

I have grown up weeding, planting flowers and vegetables much of my childhood.
I have one summer of commercial farm experience.
I worked two summers for a landscaping company maintaining gardens and lawns, including mowing, trimming, pruning, raking, and weeding.
I worked three summers for a country club where I attended to guests needs and learned customer service skills. I also interacted with kids and taught them how to shoot bows at foam targets or throw tomahawks into wood stumps :)
Two summers ago I tried door to door sales absolutely hated it but it taught me good people skills.
And for the last year I have worked on the runway at an airport throwing bags and driving heavy equipment.

What else ...

I love hiking and want to get better at technical mountaineering.
Off grid living, sailing, and growing/raising your own food are life skills I really want to learn.
I'd also love to get better at snorkeling/free diving/surfing so if you know any of those, I'd love to learn.
