ABOUT US:
I am Jenny (39) and I live with my two sons Jona (9,5) and Jaro (7,5) on the beautiful Island Bornholm in Denmark.
We live on a property with 5.000 square meters where we have our own house with a big garden, (fruit) trees and a stable. We have two cats. Originally we come from Germany.
There is also an other small house which also belongs to the property where another homeschooling family lives (they are not always there).
We live a country life, next to fields, close to the beach and the forest (both walking distance). There are very nice hiking trails all around.
The next supermarket is reachable by bicycle (we will have one for you). The next “bigger” city, Nexø is around 12 minutes away (by car).
We love nature and so we love to be outside a lot.
We like to go to forests, the beach, we hike, we go by bicycle, rollerblading and we love being in our garden. We love to pick berries, collect wild herbs and observe every (little) animal.
We enjoy evenings sitting outside together on the fire, talking, drinking tea and making campfire bread.
Furthermore we love to make little trips to different forests, special nature places, waterfalls and more.
Moreover, when it's colder outside we also like to go to museums and do inner activities.
Both the kids are very energetic and love games where you move - e.g. running, trampoline, hula hoop, badminton, archery, going by bicycle, acrobatics etc. But they also love to play lego, bord games, UNO, Jona plays piano, they love to paint and to do crafting. Furthermore they like working with ceramics. My kids speak perfectly German, English and danish. And they understand quite well Swedish and Spanish.
I'm (Jenny) personally interested in
cooking, creative projects, yoga, spirituality, Breathwork, personal growth/healing, meditation, reading, dancing (Zumba), having inspiring and deep conversations.
I also love to pick and use wild herbs and like to ferment vegetables.
At the moment I'm very interested in the topic feminine and masculine energy and I'm happy to share and discuss about it.
I’m doing a Breathwork facilitator training at the moment.
We are an alternative family and live off the mainstream.
That includes the following:
SELF DIRECTED LEARNING / UNSCHOOLING.
The children don’t go to school or kindergarden. They are learning from everyday life.
I am convinced that children learn always and everywhere and that we don’t need to force them to learn something. We just need to give them the right environment.
Children can not NOT learn, it happens all the time - even or especially when they “just” play.
Bornholm has a big homeschooling/unschooling-community.
Several days a week we meet in the homeschooling-group or in person with other homeschooling families.
We play, learn and have fun together. We already learned about bees, made pine juice, visited a church, cooked soups over the fire, tried to find ways with compass and a map and much more. You are very much invited to join the gatherings.
VEGAN.
We are a vegan family and only eat plant based products - mainly fresh, organic and healthy. We rarely use refined sugar in our household (but alternatives like xylitol). We try not to eat to much gluten, but we are not strict about that.
I’m a big fan of healthy nutrition and I love to fermentate products, I make sprouts and sometimes our bread.
The time you live with our family we ask you to eat vegan with us.
ATTACHMENT PARENTING.
It's important for us that the needs of all the family members are respected (also the needs of the children!). The kids also have a voice - and we don’t use any punishment or rewards. We try to talk and behave on eye level with each other.
SUSTAINABLE LIVING.
Sustainable living becomes more and more important for us. We reduced our plastic consumption (and still try to do more) and try to be mindful with our water consumption (e.g. not showering every day). We kindly ask you to do the same when you live with us.
A lot of things we make ourselves (e.g. deo, toothpaste, creams), I’m happy to share that with you.
--------
Generally we are happy if you could help us from morning till lunch. After lunch you have your own free time.
But I'm also grateful if you can still be flexible with times and open to change your help hours. But we always talk so that everyone is satisified.
Sometimes in the morning we are at meet-ups, so you either work alone or in the afternoon when we are back. You are always welcome to join us to meet-ups.
Sometimes I might have something in the evening. So I'm grateful if you agree to just be there that evening in case the kids wake up or also bring the kids to bed on some days (not often).
But when the other family on our property is there, you are very welcome to go out with me too in the evening (I did that with our last Workawayer and we had much fun).
The time you stay with us, we treat you as a normal family member and you are invited to be with us as often as you want. We are a very open and flexible family, so we can talk about everything.
WHERE DO YOU SLEEP?
In our house you get your own room with two beds, a desk and a closet.

We have very good experiences with long-term stays. We already had three workaways who stayed between 3 to 5 month..
