Ama's hospitality was incredible. She made us feel welcome and comfortable throughout our stay. Priyanka, Ama's lovely helper, cooked us delicious home-cooked meals every day. We were inspired by Ama's vision for her tree-planting project. We were happy to help with the project and around the house. Everyone at Ama's place was so kind and loving. We're so grateful for the experience and wish to visit again soon! All the very best to Ama for her great work!

THIS WAS AN INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE!! Was my first workaway, I stayed for 2.5 months, and honestly met some of the most amazing people, and made lifelong friends. John is so genuine, funny and full of cool stories!! and overall an amazing guy that I now consider a friend :) I fell in love with bcn because of this, and it will always hold a special place in my heart <3

Having Clara here was such a joy. Very friendly, diligent and thorough and she had a keen eye to take care of things without me having to tell her. She was also very creative and we still have her water color of our cat on the kitchen window sill. She will always be welcome back! ☀️🤗

I was originally meant to stay for 4 or so weeks but by the time I left, I had spent a little more than 2 months in Kasese with Masika and the Foundation. It was a transformative experience both on the grounds of the school and within the community of Kasese. The school provides numerous forms of volunteer contributions but at the end of the day, teaching is often the most needed and one that you will likely take part in if you are comfortable. There is always the option to choose not to and if so, there are other tasks available such as maintaining the garden, looking after/entertaining the kids (which is always a fun time), and on occasion, I would even help with preparing lunch for the school. The children are incredibly enthusiastic about volunteers and very friendly so expect nothing less than endless attention and curiosity from them haha. I stayed at Masika’s flat and was well accommodated with evening meals most nights from the caretakers while staying in a separate room with other volunteers. The place is located above a bank and there is atleast one guard outside 24/7 so I felt I was safe and not at risk of any theft whenever I left valuables at home for longer periods of time. Masika is a hard working nurse and dedicated woman so don’t expect to find her at the school very much. You will usually see her everyday at home but for short periods of times as she may be between shifts, taking care of her baby, or busy handling business pertaining to the hospital or the foundation. That said, she is always quick to respond if you reach out to her through text or a phone call. She is very resourceful and willing to help you with any questions or concerns. She also knows plenty of people within the area and is willing to provide you with contact details or general recommendations for weekend activities. It’s also worth mentioning that just before I left, she hired a friend named Reagan (a very friendly and nice guy in his mid 20s) to be a “volunteer coordinator” who is there for you if you have any questions, need help at home or at the school, and generally, to provide volunteers with a sort of guidance and transparency from their time arrival. The only real issue I faced was during my first weeks over the holiday break when there was no school. Sometimes I felt there was a lack of communication as Masika would be busy during the day and us volunteers were unsure of what to do without there being school. So now with a new person there to overlook the volunteers, I think this won’t do much be a problem. Also, Masika’s brother Stuart is a contributor/supporter of the foundation and he is another person you can refer to whenever you have any questions. He was often who I was reporting too once I first arrived there. Beyond the foundation, I felt pretty safe in Kasese just expect to be the center of attention walking through town. But the locals are quite welcoming and I even felt a sense of community after 2 months of being there. There is a big vegetable market just down the street from where I stayed, little stores scattered around for basic drinks and snacks, some restaurants, and gorgeous scenery surrounding it all. There is hiking nearby, hot springs, the national park for safaris, tailors all around who can hand craft clothing for you, and a beautiful river that I spent quite a bit of time at relaxing and cooling down. If you are interested in the program, I totally recommend it as you feel your actions are going towards a good cause and there is also plenty to be gained from a volunteer perspective as well. You receive a pretty intimate understanding of what the lifestyle involves for local Ugandans living in more of a rural environment. And I think there is plenty to be learned from their way of living and understanding of existence. I treasured my time and I will absolutely return at some point in the future. Thank you to Masika, her family, and all involved within the school for this incredible stay! Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions as I’m happy to answer them :)

The time was an exceptionally great volunteering experience for me! Chixculub Pueblo (CP) is a lovely, yet quiet little town near Merida. So this volunteering is the right for you if you want to experience village life in Yucatán, to get to know local communities and their history and to simply do something good. It might not be the right for you if you plan to stay at a touristy party location. Dom Héctor is a very supportive and kind person, taking a lot of care that volunteers have a great time. During my stay I could use the kitchen and a room, sometimes I cooked food myself, but often we volunteers had shared breakfast or lunch with Don Héctor. He and his life partner even took me to Uxmal and a cenote, plus explained me a lot about local life. There were very high temperatures when I arrived in Yucatán, which made it impossible to work on the Maya houses. So we used the time to create a virtual walking tour to discover the Maya houses in CP and we organized a semi virtual exhibition, with a lot of support from the local communities. I loved the time here, found new friends and will definitely come back when I am in Mexico again.

We are happy to have hosted Jenny and Scott for two weeks in our home. They are cheerful and helpful individuals; in fact, with their help, we were able to complete some important tasks. We enjoyed our time together, learning new things from each other, including about our respective cultures. They have a great interest in learning Italian and the local culture, as well as new skills. Our first experience as hosts on Workaway with them was very positive and encourages us to seek new experiences. We hope they can come back again!

Lee just left but I will miss him. We worked, ate and talked for 2 weeks during his stay and I had a perfect time with him. Polite and super clean he kept the kitchen together. It was nice to concentrate on the cooking and find it all clean again later. I could get used to it. We did all kind of works. After a short introduction, even the chainsaw and the trimmer was not a problem. Short I would love to see him again and he will always be welcome.

This place is absolutely perfect for a working holiday. You can borrow a car and ride a bike here, so after work, you can explore the surroundings. The work is very simple, mainly sweeping leaves off the paths and cleaning the house, changing the bed sheets. You might only work a few hours a day, and then you can continue doing your own things after work. It takes about 20 minutes by bike to get to the supermarket from here. Every few days, I pack a backpack and ride to the supermarket. The field scenery here is very beautiful, but it’s very dark at night, so remember to bring a flashlight. I usually don’t exercise much, but this month has really strengthened my legs. Sometimes there are music party here, which are very lively, and everyone dances together. I really like the atmosphere at night. When the place is full of people, everyone has barbecues outside. While walking here, you can hear everyone’s laughter, creating a great atmosphere. I’m really lucky because all the Workaway participants speak English. Even though my English isn’t very good, no one isolates me, and I have a lot of fun with everyone. We go to the beach, hike, and have barbecues together. Lying in the forest, looking up at the stars and listening to everyone’s laughter makes me feel very comfortable. The Japanese colleagues here are also very nice. Mr. Yoji is the owner here. One day, he cooked a feast for us employees, and it was very delicious. I was very happy. Nao is our manager. He is responsible for leading us at work. He is very kind and easy to talk to. He often meets our requests. I often work with Fujiwara. Although his tone can be a bit intimidating, he is actually very kind. He taught me many things, and I feel happy working with him. I had a very unforgettable month here. Thank you, everyone!

I cannot recommend Sherri highly enough. She is kind, patient, fun to be with, and very flexible about everything. We could talk about anything and everything. Sherri was with us only a week but during that time, she helped me accomplish a superhuman amount of organizing in our basement. I run a FB group that co-ordinates donations of clothing and household goods and combined with clearing out my mother's things, my basement was close to a hoarder's paradise. Sherri was truly expert at helping me get through both the physical and emotional stress of organizing / clearing the area and I am forever grateful. I know she will continue to enjoy success in whatever she puts her efforts into. Thank you, Thank you. Thank you!!!

We had the great pleasure of hosting Edward as part of our renovation project, and we could not have hoped for better help. Despite the short time spent with us, Edward demonstrated remarkable energy and efficiency. He quickly took on the tasks of demolishing the old concrete floor and preparing the timber for the joists, bringing a level of care and attention to detail that was greatly appreciated. His ability to adapt and choose the work that suited him best was also a major asset. Edward is not only a hard worker but also a very pleasant person, he's really nice! And always ready to share a conversation or a meal. We had fun with some games and anecdotes about translating our respective languages. Edward has a very good general knowledge. His campervan allowed him great autonomy, which was convenient for everyone and will be for anyone who hosts him. We are very grateful for the help he was able to give us in this big project, like a hummingbird as we said in the garden "it's the sum of small advances that make big projects" 😃 You're an awesome guy, Edward!

Like knights in shining armour Madeleine and Enrico came to our rescue. We were bogged down with to many deadlines and projects after a long journey abroad. They were very switched on helpers who didn't need too many explainations, instead they saw the work were it was and within a few days we could see that we would finish all tasks on time with their help. Enrico is a skilled handyman, he laid floorboards, put scirting boards down, painted, sanded, in short anything that needed fixing. Madeleine helped renovating and also gave a hand in house and garden. We had many interesting conversations, they mixed well with friends and neighbours. We can whole heartedly recommend them and would also be very happy to have them here again.

I felt wellcomed from the very first moment ad I’ve seen Ramon. Ramone is really a special person. In a world with more Ramon everything world go smooth. He’s energetic, talkative and has so much wisdom to share. He taught me how to do stuff and then let me do it my way. He has a talent in making People smile. I really loved the time spent with him and his family. I left with so much more then I arrived end it’s hard to explain what. Every workaway must feel lucky to live in this family for a while. Vi abbraccio tutti e vi auguro il meglio dalla vita. Spero di rincontrarvi un giorno!

Ciaran was with me for 1 week and what a great guy he is. Not only is he a really affable person with a good sense of humour but he worked consistently hard and left me feeling I had been on one of those DIY SOS programmes! A TRUE 5 stars!!! He dug trenches, moved boulders and stones to build steps, transforming a once muddy slope into a series of landscaped, gravelled steps. He also prepared and gravelled 2 sections around the back of the house meaning I can now walk from the front door to the bathroom without getting dusty or muddy! He also methodically cleared all the crap I had laying around the place and helped me get it to the dump, and then stowed the rest around the back of the property, neatly out of sight. On his last day he planted out approx. 24 watermelon plants into a section of land that he covered with 2 bales of straw first. Ciaran, thank you so much for your hard graft and easy company - you are so welcome back any time! I'll keep you updated on Bubble & Squeak - i'll let you tell that story in your review! 😉

Erin and Peter are a lovely pair and great company. They picked up fast what needed to be done and are very versatile. They did lots: cutting out tent caterpillars, feeding the sheep, entertaining the grandkids, building a ramp for the neighbour, gardening, baking biscuits, cutting up branches, ripping out dead bushes and more. A great addition to the family.

François and Coline couldn't have been more friendly, warm and welcoming. They have a big renovation on their hands and although I could only offer them three days they managed to fit me into their plans. I came by campervan so I had my own accommodation, but I took showers and meals at François and Coline's apartment a short drive from the renovation (they drove me there and back). I helped them to demolish an old concrete floor and to prepare timber for use as joists. They offered me other work, such as pruning fruit trees, if I preferred. Essentially François and Coline are flexible and easygoing. I would not hesitate for a moment to recommend them as hosts. In fact, I'm looking forward to returning soon to see how their renovation is coming along.

Fanny and Cassandra came here at the beginning of January 2024 and left at the end of February. They are lovely couple who had a great time with everyone here. Enthusiastically helped with everything and made the best of everything, which made our team very happy - both two-legged and four-legged. They are easy going and fun to be around. They went on several day trips with the dogs, sometimes in quite challenging conditions, but I'm sure they loved the experience. They mention in their profile that they enjoy cooking - and do it very well - so have to thank all the lovely bakeries. We would be delighted to see them again at our doorstep :)
