Description
I am Margaret a teacher by profession trained to teach children with mental handicapping conditions
I am in charge of a charitable children’s home, an institution registered with government as a Community Based Organization (CBO). The Home was started in 2007 by two volunteers who realized the problems orphans with mental handicapping conditions were undergoing .The home cares, supports and trains these vulnerable children.
I am one of the founders of this our humble home where God has given us the will of giving hope to the hopeless.
The home is about two hours drive from the capital city of Nairobi towards Mt. Kenya.
On a clear morning, one can see the snow capped Mt. Kenya from just around this area. We are not far from the Equator and the Aberdares where volunteers can visit and see the big five.
I Margaret will be oftenly taking our visitors to see our town ( Karatina) and its environs. They will be able to see our open air market. There is much to see around this place and I will be willing to show it all. Volunteers will never regret coming to Karatina.
The children will be entertaining the volunteers :-
• Singing
• Reciting poems
• Dramatizing etc
Each group that comes will be given a basket beautifully woven by Margaret.
If one person comes, he/she will get that basket. If more than one person, we will give the oldest member of the group that basket whether a lady or a gentleman.Types of help and learning opportunities

Help
We would wish to have volunteers regularly for basic help. Volunteers do not need to have any special skills only love of the mentally handicapped children.
In the home we train these children on activities of daily living e.g. brushing teeth sweeping, wiping the chairs etc.
We also train them on vocational skills e.g. sewing and knitting. Even playing balls, jumping with the children, giving therapeutic exercises. These will help the children feel loved and taken care of.
The Home is a non profit making venture but an initiative where all can join to assist these vulnerable children. Currently we have 17 very needy children.
You can also help us with social media.Languages spoken

we live in a big spacious permanent house, where each volunteer will sleeping in his / her own bed.
What else ...
There is enough security. We are near a town. There is clean water and electricity. There is no hostility of any kind towards visitors. I would also say we are driven by a passion of “love” and “will” to help these mentally handicapped orphans. However we have realized we can never be able to do it alone hence we call upon volunteers to come and join hands with us and our good Lord will bless them .
I Margaret will take good care of the volunteers so that they will be coming again and again
Please do join us as we strive to change the lives of these very needy childrenA little more information
