    Description

Come to Denmark to help create and expand a Learning Community- and Education Centre. We host youth exchanges and retreats, we also provide introductions to a new bridge-building entrepreneurship education for young people, who want to become independent entrepreneurs or who just want to become leaders in their own life :)

We are getting the buildings and the grounds ready to host trainings, gatherings and youth exchanges:
I have bought a beautiful piece of land in Asnæs, Odsherred, Denmark - 8.800 m2. It had a couple of old buildings and a newer one. One of the old buildings was an old stables-building, which has now been torn down, but we are working to create a nice yard where it once was, and we have put a small summerhose in its place - originally to act as a café/ice cream parlor in the summer - but now our caretaker, Tobias, lives there :)
The other old building is the very old schoolhouse of the former 'Høve Skole' which functioned as a school from 1837 to 1947 - this building is still standing and has been refurbished several times. We call it the 'farmhouse' building and it is a 'work-in-progress' - it now has a new roof and the first floor of the building has been turned into a community room with a kitchen - a hangout for WorkAway'ers and guests.

The newer building is a building from the 70'ies which we call the 'dormitory' - this building has been fitted with new floors in order to have central heating in the floors. We have just installed geothermal heating pumps, so our whole geothermal system now works!

Tour de France was visiting Denmark in July of '22 - and they were driving past close by... this brought lots of life to the community, sharing more activities. A great experience and lots of happy people! We have had several of the areas' Streetfood market workers living here during summer - this has also brought life and activities - and paid work for some of our WorkAway'ers.

There are of course lots of tasks to keep the grounds nurtured continuously: we have attempted to grow a big vegetable-garden (not always so succesfull...), we have a football pitch and an orchard.... they all have to be kept free from too many weeds.... And of course we have to take care of the chickens and the rooster in the chicken pen!
We now also have a cat (Sørensen) living here - he is an outdoor cat and still very shy, but he is guarding the yard and area around the chicken pen to keep mice from coming inside!

In general the tasks are many: This spring we have built a new garden shed for all the garden tools and we will next be working on re-creating the barn into a 'maker-space' / a creative room. Hopefully we will be able to get it ready for the Art Residency we are hosting here in July!
If you are and artist or wanna be artist, you are welcome to come in July (30th June to 4th August) to participate in this course and creative endeavour (it is FREE of charge). Let me know if you send me a message if this is what you are interested in :)

Of course there are always repair jobs, like repairing the greenhouse, changing some windows plus various other repairs and paint-jobs. General maintenance, cutting grass, tending to the vegetable garden and keeping the guest-areas clean and tidy (and cooking and cleaning for yourselves and fellow WorkAway'ers) are of course also tasks to be done.

Most of all however we want to create a nice and welcoming place to receive people and welcome guests.
There is always lots to do, we can mend the fences around the place, build separating dikes from the many stones we have on the property - AND we can finish the stone-setting which creates the beautiful amfi-theatre on the slope from the buildings to the garden.... It all depends on who comes and which skill-set you want to develop and expand :) :)

It will be great, if you have worked with moving and laying stones before or if you have any experience in carpentry or gardening - or if you just have a will to participate :) :) ...

In short: we want to make the property and the surrounding garden beautiful and welcoming for all people who will come to this Learning Community Centre :) :)
    You are welcome :)

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Mostly the learning process is about creating community and building something from scratch, creating beauty and priming a beautiful place in nature to receive students and people in general. Depending on when in the process you come as a workaway'er there will be different skills to learn. Submerged in the danish culture of the place, but with a community of people from different places and from all walks of life - it is a nice mix of cultures who come to put their mark on this centre.
And thank you so much for coming :)

There are many tasks and many different skills are welcome:
It will be great if you have knowledge about gardening, tending to a vegetable garden, how to create and tend to a very big lawn and an orchard....
It will be great, if you have experience with moving and laying stones before...(some of them are very big and require machine help)
There is also some plastering tasks, creating the Amfi-theater and building a shed from the old stones...
Something always need repairing and there is also always some painting to be done ....
There are daily tasks of tending to chickens and getting the community to work.
So if you have any experience in any of these fields it will be great!

    Accommodation

We have rooms with bunk-beds, so you will be staying 2 people in each room.
The beach is within walking distance (1½ km) and we have 3-5 working bicycles which you can borrow to go to the small shopping centre in Asnæs if you wish.

    What else ...

The Academy is in Høve, postal code 4550 Asnæs, Odsherred. It is a 1½ hour train ride from Copenhagen. You get on a train to Holbæk, where you change trains to go towards Nykøbing Sj and you get off in Asnæs. It may be a good idea to get an anonymous travel card (but check other options for young people).
Lots of hiking possibilities, walking to the beach and going for a swim or going for bike-rides. Several of our previous workaway'ers joined the local football-club and participated in tournaments :)

We have fibernet in order to achieve a better and stable internet connection. Although we are in the country (and have some hills which impair the connection sometimes), the cable connection does give us stability. We have a common room with a few stationary PC's and a workspace. Digital nomads are welcome.

We have chickens - they are fenced in. We have one shy cat. We love dogs, so one such would be welcome, but our shy cat will probably run way for the duration.
