    Description

I am an elderly lady on a citrus farm in the Groot Marico area of South Africa. We are situated next to our own crocodile and game farm. We grow organic herbs and fruit and sell at local markets. A bed and breakfast is also run from the farm. The farm is situated close to a village for local purchases. The closest town is approximately 50 km away and the Botwana border is about 150 km away. The Pilansburg nature reserve is also very close to us.

I employ 3 workers. One part time and two are permanent. The two men are general workers. The lady is a housekeeper and all are Twanas. The all live in different communities close by. The farmers' are mostly Afrkaaners of Dutch heritage. Most of the workforce are Tswana. We border Botswana who are also Tswanas.

As far as cultural experiences, we have the Herman Bosman museum in Groot Marico and have street markets where Fresh produce is sold with entrepreneurs selling their goods. There are also Indian families living in Groot Marico. It is a great Tourist Attraction and has many events throughout the year.

The cottage available for workaway housed German volunteers for many years who worked with the children's creche and schools.

There is no doubt that a two week stay would be too short to experience the cultural activities in this community.
