Description
We are a pretty colourful bunch of nice people composed of an austrian and a middle east family and long standing international friends. Actually living here permanently: Feri (1982), Lise (1975) and Mia (1942). The children Layla (2013) and Aisha (2015) and the cousins of Feri are coming regularly to see us to enjoy the time together and preparing good oriental food! Same as a lot of different visitors (friends, helpers, family) from all over the world.
We live here in Lower Austria at the beginning of the alps in one of the beautiful natural spring water protection areas of the city of Vienna. (100 km south of the city - by train within 1 hour). Its the last small village before the Höllental (hell canion) at the foot of the mountain Rax near the river Schwarza. We are on a hill, hidden behind ancient giant coniferous trees.
The farm was built over 150 years ago as a guest house, then used as a simple farmhouse and then converted in the style of a century-turnvilla.
From the original stable became another residential house. The old house is still very original (as 100 years ago) and it was not much changed. Until 20 years ago the farm was cultivated. At that time there were animals and vegetables and fruits were cultivated. An old fruit tree garden is still present but has to be renewed with yound trees. In some years the trees have still old apple varieties, pears, plums and cherries. We run again a veggie garden too. In the old glashouse we grow in the warmer periods tomatoes, melanzani and cucumbers. There is a big stable for the sheep/goats, a little wood workshop and a crazy Ebike/Scooter workshop.
We have a lot of wood and we must fill up our wood storage for the winter. That means we need help with collecting/cutting/sorting/chopping wood. In autumn we must activate the host for the cold season (store summer things, activating winter tools, cleaning/preparing in the veggie/herb garden, the other outdoor areas, etc. ) Sadly we had horrible storms and rain a few days ago that destroyed our vegetable and herb garden completly. So we need help with reparing/cleaning/preparing the beds, planting winter veggies, weeding, storing the water system etc.
We have to clear out the animal dung before winter lamp season in November. Additionally we must rebuild and improve stable for the sheep/goats.
Mia (she is over 80years old) needs also some help with cleaning, preparing meals and for some company from time to time.
After a busy summer season with a lot of family, friends, helpers from all over the world and a lot of action the winter season will be more quiet here! Feri´s cousins are coming regularly to visit us. Then they make a lot of very tasty oriental food and enjoy the time with us and our helpers! We have a big family and lot of friends from all over the world. Sometimes we have family events and we need help fot it. That means we must prepare rooms and other things for them. We dont need help with paying guests and all guests relate to family and friends visiting.
We have two male MINI GOATS - Max and Moritz. We rescued them 6 years ago and they are like pets.
Since 3 years we have some SHEEP - at the moment we have 20. Before the winter the herd must be reduced because we will have new lamps in November. The sheep we need for cutting the gras (we never used a gras cutter again since we have them) on the property and we keep them as farm animals to have our own meat. We must constantly improve their stables, build more fences etc. We need help with taking care of the animals daily, like feeding hey, changing drinking water, letting them in an out of the stable etc.
We already keep BEES since nearly 10 years.
At the moment we have again 6 hieves after a big loss last year.
Cilli (2016) our DACHSHOUND lady, our bad boy FritzTheCat (2023) and 2 WILD CATS (Basbus and Gasgus) live here, too.
The winters are very hard because of the mountain climate, but mostly with lots of snow. In the warm season, we have lot of fun in and with the nature, a 100 year old still functioning swimming pool, barbecues and much more. The surrounding mountains (Rax, Schneeberg, Semmering etc.) invite you to explore them.
WE ARE WORKING VERY HARD AND A LOT DAILY OURSELVES- SO WE PREFER PEOPLE WHO WANT TO STAY FOR A LONGER PERIOD BECAUSE THE HOST IS VERY BIG AND WE DONT HAVE THE TIME TO EXPLAIN AND SHOW ALL FOR ONLY A FEW DAYS. WE SEARCH ESPECIALLY STRONG PEOPLE WHO REALLY ENJOY BEEING IN NATURE SURROUNDED OF ANIMALS AND MOUNTAINS IN ANY WEATHER. YOU SHOULD LIKE TO GET YOUT HANDS DIRTY AND YOU ARE NOT AFRAID OF SOMETIMES PHYSICAL HARD TASKS.
YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HELP IN A TEAM BUT ALSO AFTER INTRODUCTION INDEPENDENTLY. YOU WILL ASSIST US WITH THE DAILY TASKS LIKE TAKING CARE OF THE ANIMALS, CLEANING IN AND AROUND THE HOUSES, GARDENING, WOODWORKING, HELPING MIA WITH DAILY TASKS ETC.
We want to promote cultural exchange and learning opportunities (especially food and language) for people who are interested!

As we have so many projects for which we don't always have enough time we badly need everytime help around house and farm.
Cleaning (house, stables, garages etc) has to be done daily.
Renovating, sorting, organizing
Woodwork (preparing fire wood for winter) need to be done during the whole year.
We have to take care of the goats and sheep and the bees ( cleaning the stable, feeding hey, harvesting honey, parasite treatment, feeding, controls, etc.)
If you are not able to keep you and your surroundings clean it is not the right place for you!
Due to our experiences and the dimension of the host, we prefer a longer stay of the volunteers! You need around one week to get to know everything here - thats why we suggest a minimum stay of 2 weeks. A longer stay is better for an easier living together! But due to a lot of different projects - don't hesitate to send us anyway an enquiry also for a shorter stay!

We are an open minded, uncomplicated and funny family. We love to integrate our helpers if possible in our lives.
As we are busy in many different fields it can happen sometimes that we don't have time to look after our guests around the clock. We would like to work with people who like to think independently, who can notice after a while by themeselves what should be done, who i.e. make dinner for themselves or for all of us, or take care of jobs by themselves.
In some periods of the year, especially in the summer, a lot of different people are here and in some periods it can be very quiet here, too.
-DONT COME HERE IF YOU ONLY WANT TO MAKE HOLIDAYS FOR FREE, AND YOU THINK YOU CAN FOOL US. WE DEVELOPED A VERY GOOD FEELING AND WE FIND OUT QUICKLY WHO DOESNT TAKE IT SERIOUS -
If it turns out, there is also the possibility for a longer stay, to live together and to work on projects together!
