  Description

  We have recently bought a couple of houses and land in rural Central Portugal, on the edge of a small village. As quiet as quiet can be.
  💦 Fifteen minutes from Figueiro dos Vinhos town centre, two gorgeous swimming spots Sao Simao & Foz de Alge. 💦
  
  🌿🌳 we have spaces for people from MID JUNE - for at least 3 week stays. Either in your own camper-van, our attic space in the house, bell tent in the garden, or our camper-van. ((Attic is best suited to someone who is ok with the varying sounds of a toddler!)) 🌿🌳
  
  Depending on who we connect with, we’re looking for support with:
  
  🌟Permaculture/Biodynamic/forest gardening.
  
  🌟Eco building - an off grid ‘studio apartment’ type space using natural materials. Bathroom & kitchen installing/building.
  
  🌟Interior house painting.
  
  🌟 Cooking. We mostly follow a Paleo/auto immune protocol diet for health reasons, but we will get in anything else you may want to eat.
  
  🌟Ad-hoc childcare, if it flows, but this is optional and not essential.
  
  We like to think we’re pretty good with boundaries and being clear on what the exchange will look like. It’s good to for us to have a weekly schedule and plan ahead with what our days will look like.
  We like to tidy up after ourselves and keep good standards of cleanliness.
  
  Happy to keep it as a fair exchange or increase the load/skills and pay a fair wage too.
  
  We would prefer people who want more long-term stays, 3 weeks minimum. We also want to connect with those we host and create friendships! It's not just about working. It's about connecting and sharing. Happy to host a family if we connect on a video and it feels like it could flow. Assuming we would probably all want our own family space so we would offer you our camper-van & bell tent. In the near future we will have the first of the eco builds complete to stay in.
  
  We don’t have WiFi but both have unlimited data on our phones which you can use as a hotspot.
  
  On a more personal note, Mendel & I as people are self-reflective, mellow, and lean towards a spiritual life. We both follow a Sufi path (Ruhaniat). We appreciate our precious quiet time when our boy is asleep, but we are also so happy to have good nourishing conversations over tea in the evening.
  
  Our toddler is full of life and loves singing, making music, collecting stones for his pockets, and playing with water. Simple joys. Shouting into the mountains when he has to let it all out.
  We try our best to practice respectful and conscious parenting with him, without punishments. (That doesn’t mean without boundaries..)
  He keeps us on our toes and blows our minds every day watching him grow.
  
  Mendel also co-owns a fermented foods business based in England. (Loving Foods)

  We live in a beautiful quiet area in Central Portugal, with a growing international community in surrounding villages and towns. We are seeking to have people with us who can really join our family for the duration of their stay. Hands on with the help exchange but also to share life with us, cooking, stories over tea, explore the beautiful location, meet the local community. We want plenty of joy & love! Our gorgeous toddler can take the lead in that one easily!

  We both speak fluent English as our native tongues (our boy's main language is English, some Hebrew), Mendel speaks conversational Hebrew and to our boy. We want to integrate more Portuguese into our everyday lives, we’re learning slowly!

  We are quite remote so to get to any shops or cafes a vehicle is needed. We are on a mountain.
  We do make a few trips out a week, so we can try to sync up with all of our needs for trips out.
  
  The house is within a small village, next to some woodland, and a short drive to some beautiful river beaches.
  
  Also happy to have local-ish day trips to show you the stunning natural places surrounding us.
