Hi, I'm Ty from Sydney, Australia :) I'm taking a gap year in 2023 and want to meet lots of new people and experience different cultures and lifestyles around the world so I can learn and grow!
Description
Hey! My name's Ty, I'm 19, and I'm born and raised in Sydney, Australia! In 2023, after finishing high school, I decided to take a gap year and travel to take the time to reflect, experience, learn and grow. It was such an awesome year and I used workaway a lot to get out and have some amazing experiences, and meet some very cool people.
Currently, I'm back in Sydney doing my Bachelors of Psychology, but during my breaks I'm very keen to continue travelling and exploring the world!
To tell you a bit about myself, I have a lot of interests, and a lot of things I want to try! My hobbies change all the time because it's hard to do everything I want to do all at once. I think my travels last year really showed this with the absolute variety of things I chose to do. I started the year in Japan as a farmer in the beautiful countryside, then went to France as an au pair in the alps. Then I explored the Greek islands, hopped back around the world to Hawaii to work on an animal sanctuary, and then eventually made my way back to Europe and then Morocco to surf, work at a language school and visit new friends!
Besides all of this, some of my favourite things include scuba diving (I recently got my license in Thailand!), snorkelling, surfing, climbing, running, hiking, nature in general, reading, board games and card games, volleyball, muay thai, drawing and painting, playing the piano, jazz music. I also love travelling and meeting new people and learning about and EXPERIENCING different cultures of course. For similar reasons, I also really love learning languages. I'm fluent in Thai and English and I've been learning French for 3 years now. I also started learning Japanese this year, so I'd love the chance to practice more, or even learn other langauges!
I also have a lot of interests/topics/things I want to pursue/learn about/do such as:
- Farming
- Marine/wildlife conservation
- Skydiving (I want to get my solo license)
- Astronomy
- Freediving
- Spirituality
- Film photography and video making / content creation
- Volunteering in South Africa/Tanzania/Kenya and going on a SAFARI! (I wanted to be a zookeeper as a kid)
- Going somewhere like New York to do something creative? That'd be awesome
- Philosophy
- Homelessness, education
- See the northern lights for the first time and also have a white christmas! And work with huskies at a dogsledding place in Lapland, Finland
- Travel to French Polynesia and swim with whales
Above all my interests however, is probably how much I like to socialise and talk to new people. Having deep conversations, talking about things often unspoken, fostering a meaningful connection - that stuff is gold to me! I believe that each person represents their own little universe, completely unique to anybody else. Therefore, when I talk to and learn about another person, it's as if I get to open up and see a whole new world. That's part of why I love travelling so much - it gives me the chance to meet lots and lots of cool, new, and unique people. I'm very grateful for the amazing people I've had the chance to meet so far, and hope I get to meet many many more.
Anyway, I hope that provides a comprehensive enough idea of who I am! I hope that I can continue to make many more amazing new friends and have lots of cool encounters as I continue to travel. I hope to see you out there!!!Centres d’intérêt

I love the idea of learning languages. I believe it allows you to connect with a completely new group of people on a new level of understanding. It opens up a lot of doors. I can speak English and Thai fluently, though I can only teach English because unfortunately I never wrote or read Thai growing up, I only spoke and listened. I've been learning French since high school, so this is my 3rd/4th year of learning! I've also begun learning Japanese this year! The goal is that one day I can speak so many different languages and have so many connections around the world from all the cool experiences and interactions that my language learning journey takes me :)Compétences et connaissances que j'aimerais partager ou apprendre

In terms of practical skills, I have developed a lot of hospitality, people, teamwork and organisation skills working in a restaurant for many years. I am also currently a tutor for highschool students in maths, english, and French. I've coached volleyball, done photography and media work, and am very capable with cleaning and housework. I've also had experience working on a farm (with and without animals), renovations (cement mixing, digging, etc), looking after children, and teaching English in a foreign country.
There are still a bunch of skills I have not yet learned, however, and I am very interested in learning more and am open to trying new things :)Âge

You are humorous and funny. I found you to be sensitive and truly kind. To be honest, as a staff member, I often entrusted you with heavy work. But you never complained, rather you enjoyed your work. This attitude had a positive impact on the other workaways. I am sure that you spend your time outside of work hours… read more
